Opera Gloves: An Artist's Favourite Accessory

One thing about the artists of today? They love their opera gloves.

To say that opera gloves are having a resurgence is a bit of an understatement. Though the hype for them went away for a little while earlier this year, it's back again in full force thanks to TikTok and the music artists of today.

The last time we saw opera gloves trending was at the 2022 Met Gala earlier in May, where names like Olivia Rodrigo, Blake Lively, Naomi Campbell, SZA, Kacey Musgraves, and Laura Harrier all sported the same accessories of different shades and styles on the red carpet.

The trend comes across as no surprise as the retro Marilyn-inspired look has always been beloved by artists around the world, giving a touch of sophistication and old-school glamour to any ensemble.

And although opera gloves have always been associated with classy formal wear, they've also somewhat transitioned into an edgy statement piece over the years – fashioned out of mesh, fishnets, and latex as compared to the usual silks and velvets.

These now "rebellious" accessories grew in popularity in the early '00s and '10s, favoured by that of influential women like Avril Lavigne, Beyoncé, Mariah Carey, and Lady Gaga to name a few; you could almost expect to see these accessories on the arms of your favourite artists whilst they were performing or on a music video on MTV.

Now, the trend has returned, as with the resurgence of other Y2K styles in fashion. As seen on the current it girls of music, elevate your ensembles with the cutest latex, laced-up, mesh, satin, and shimmery arm accessories this season.
