Onitsuka Tiger Stays On Top Of The Game With Its Fabulous Fall/Winter 2020 Footwear
With slightly over seven decades of fascinating history to its name, it’s hardly surprising that Onitsuka Tiger should look back at its heritage to find the inspiration to move forward. Nimbly treading the fine line between tradition and innovation, the Japanese label never fails to impress with creations that feel at once classic and contemporary — and it goes without saying, chic.
This Fall/Winter 2020, to complement the edgy, streetwear meets sportswear vibe of its apparel offerings, Onitsuka Tiger introduces several new silhouettes to its already formidable lineup of sneakers, heavily influenced by designs in its extensive archive but reimagined with modern technology and textiles.
Below, we give you the lowdown on a few of our favourite picks from this season’s collection, all of which, we can assure you, are a more than worthwhile investment.
BIG LOGO TRAINER 2.0 MT
Bigger is definitely better when it comes to this dynamic design. Fusing last year’s smash-hit sneaker with elements drawn from vintage running shoes, the BIG LOGO TRAINER 2.0 MT features an ankle-height upper in a blend of leather, mesh and veau velour, and an ergonomic platform sole equipped with an OrthoLite sockliner, a FLYTEFOAM Propel midsole, and a fuzeGEL heel to provide enhanced cushioning and resilience for smoother strides. Adding that extra oomph is the ’70s-era CLAW Stripes motif, which swoops across the sides in broad strokes of white or red against black, birch and “aquarium” blue.
DENTIGRE
Made distinctive by a dramatic, three-dimensional outsole marked with rugged tooling, this eye-catching, tennis-inspired sneaker arrives in two variations for Fall/Winter 2020: the low-top DENTIGRE LS and high-top DENTIGRE LL. Playing with textural contrasts, the corrugated sole is integrated with a mixed media upper and soft felt tongue in monochrome black for the low-cut version, and combinations of white and tonal grey for the high-cut iteration. Whichever you choose, the DENTIGRE packs a powerful visual punch.
P-TRAINER PRZM
All that glisters is not gold — as the dazzling P-TRAINER PRZM attests. The latest in a line of chunky, gender-neutral kicks, this space-age model flaunts a glossy, iridescent upper in vivid “pink glo”, “peacoat” blue and “spice curry” bronze, coordinated with a holographic finish on the Tiger-striped outsole. OrthoLite and FLYTEFOAM Propel technology ensure that the shoe is comfortable enough to pound the pavement in, and also chic enough for a night on the town.
D-TRAINER BORO
Conceived in collaboration with multidisciplinary artist Brian Kenny, who is known for his vividly expressionistic work, the D-TRAINER BORO takes its cues from heritage silhouettes like the MEXICO 66 and TIGER CORSAIR, here updated with an “inside-out” patchwork in a mélange of bright and bold colours and materials that recalls Kenny’s multimedia collages as well as the deconstructionist movement of the 1960s. It’s a surefire style statement guaranteed to turn heads.
