Every year, the already-glamorous French Riveria gets a boom of sparkle during the Cannes Film Festival. From 18 to 29 May, the guests in attendance this year were decked out in an explosion of texture – from beads and embroidery to pearls. The amfAR Gala Cannes, a glittering star-studded charity event directed at raising money for AIDS research programmes that took place on 26 May, saw the arrival of even more radiant getups. We take a look at some of the celebrities that had us floored with their extravagant looks.
South-Korean model and DJ Soo-Joo Park wore a full Chanel ensemble. The Chanel ambassador channelled modern princess vibes and donned an ice-blue embroidered top, paired with a matching silk tulle petticoat skirt. Topping it all off with a bag from Chanel, the silver beaded clutch with crystals completed the strikingly frosty look.
Deepika Padukone, a jury member of the Cannes Film Festival, was dressed in a custom Louis Vuitton gown. Covered in mini paillettes and accentuated by black feather sequins, the Indian actress was a sight for sore eyes. The edgy silhouette was a refreshing look for the contemporary icon of grace.
Dressed to the nines for the amfAR Gala Cannes was actress Vanessa Hudgens. The star, who was one of the chairs for the event, was dressed in an ornate gold Miu Miu lace gown. The opulent number was embroidered with crystals and stones, elevated by the detailing of the high neckline.
Another chair for the amfAR Gala Cannes this year was performer and actress Cynthia Erivo. Her stunning custom Louis Vuitton gown, made of black satin and a voluminous light pink skirt, embroidered with silk mousseline feathers, was a soft burst of texture. The elegant look was completed with simple high jewellery.
Dripping in Dior was actress and film director Rebecca Hall. She took over the red carpet in a Dior Haute Couture Evening gown, embroidered with black dégradé beads. The mesh overlay on the floor-length gown added an air of elegance that was perfect for the film festival.
The epitome of modern chic, Madison Headrick was dressed in a white chiffon Prada dress, wrapped in silver-coloured pearls at the amfAR Gala Cannes. Stacks on stacks of metal pearls covered the model’s décolletage, with classic Prada enamelled triangular logos on the statement necklace.
Olivia Dejonge pulled focus on the red carpet in a jade Gucci chiffon gown. The large pool of cascading pleated organza ruffles underscored the dramatic silhouette of the actress’ look, which was further highlighted by the deep V-neck. The open sleeves on the dress were a welcome addition to her over-the-top presence, befitting the special event.
