Miu Miu Celebrates the Year of the Tiger with Some Familiar Faces
The brand hones in the essence of the Chinese Zodiac by bringing iconic animated tigers from our childhood back to life with their latest capsule collection of T-shirts.
In true Chinese New Year Spirit, Miu Miu has released a collection of T-shirts displaying big cats in animation on their front. This unique collection offers ample styles to choose from, starting with oversized crewnecks to smaller baby tees. The Italian Fashion House fully embraces the vitality and strength that accompanies the Year of the Tiger by displaying different animated tigers, ranging in spirits from cute and bouncy to heroic and unexpected throughout their line.
These quirky little characters are, however, no stranger to the limelight as they are in fact famous cartoons or mangas from way back when. And just for the occasion – Miu Miu opted to tap into the vintage perspective by bringing these iconic cats back to life.
The oldest character that can be found in the brand’s latest release is Tillie Tiger. Created by Disney in 1936, this adorable little creature was first seen on screen as the love interest of Elmer Elephant and later appeared in the series adapted comic books. She is depicted as a happy go lucky little tiger dressed in an outfit that may remind you of Minnie Mouse’s famous dress and bow.
Tiger Girl, a fictional character created by Tiger Key in 1968, takes on a more daring role in the prime of superhero fandom. Suited with a tiger print corset and accompanied by a savage tiger as her sidekick, Tiger Girl embarks on thrilling crime-fighting adventures and truly encapsulates the fierceness of the animal.
Following suit, Miu Miu sought further inspiration from the comic book world and chose Tiger Mask as another of their featured tigers. Illustrated by Naoki Tsuji, Tiger Mask first appeared in a Japanese manga comic book written by Ikki Kajiwara in 1969. This character is emblematic of true heroism and selflessness. Tiger Mask, whose real identity is never revealed, seeks to inspire younger generations to use their strength and harness their power for the greater good.
Circling back to Disney, the iconic and irrepressible Tigger also appears in Miu Miu’s Tiger collection. First seen in 1968 in the tales of Winnie the Pooh, Tigger’s contagious enthusiasm and energy implicitly teaches us how to be a truly wonderful friend.
