Miu Miu's Spring/Summer 2023 Show Felt Like A Commentary On The Contemporary
The collection saw the return of the Miu Miu low-rise, as well as Miuccia Prada's take on genderless and utilitarian workwear.
Two words to describe Miu Miu's Spring/Summer 2023 collection? Splendid venality. Miuccia Prada reacts to the trends set in the contemporary and their purpose. "This is not an easy moment to create fashion," says the designer. "For this collection, I wanted to explore the purpose of fashion, its reason. Its usefulness in society and in culture today."
To do this, Miuccia Prada looked to the notion of translation – translating feelings, moods, and ideas into her designs. "This collection is about fashion born from reality, and born for reality, to be placed back into that context. Because times are difficult, it does not mean we should not create. But we have to ensure every piece has purpose and reason. This is not a time for meaningless fashion."
Miu Miu's subversive collection took simplicity and transformed them into fabulous works of art. We saw genderless ensembles grace the runway via distressed leather and oversized acid wash denim suits to portray the move to such trends today. We also saw the return of Miu Miu's low-rise trend (thanks to the success of their SS22 collection) and utilitarian workwear often seen in street styles from the past year. Ultimately, the collection drew inspiration from the house's archives in the '90s and early '00s, prominent eras of influence on fashion today.
