MONOPOLIS! Max Mara Pre-Fall 2017

The Pre-Fall collection sees Max Mara’s heroines inhabit a new metropolitan reality imagined by Chinese artist, Liu Wei

Chinese artist Liu Wei took over the set of Max Mara’s Pre-fall 2017 runway presentation, staged last December in Shanghai.

Entitled MONOPOLIS!, the collection took inspiration from the architecture and other visual elements of film noir, with darkly glamorous models dressed in Ian Griffiths’ sharply tailored and alluringly feminine outfits. Max Mara's trademark camel-white-black trio blended seamlessly with the Liu Wei colour spectrum of his concrete jungle. Echoing the soigné styles of silver screen sirens Lauren Bacall and Joan Crawford, forties-style razor sharp silhouettes with cinched waists, cashmere coats, ruched tulle skirts, tailored trousers, knee high lace-up boots and reptilian chunky heeled pumps were most impactful in the final passage’s delicious sorbet shades, offering a seductive fantasy of decorous understatement with vintage movie star glamour.
