Let's Get Creative: L'Officiel Singapore's May 2020 Issue Is Out Now
Every dark cloud has a silver lining, even the COVID-19 pandemic. Yes, the past few months have seen a global crisis of unprecedented proportions, but these trying times have also seen the best that humanity can offer. On its part, the fashion industry has risen to the occasion magnificently, donating millions of dollars to support coronavirus relief and research, and pivoting factories to produce medical gowns, face masks, and hand sanitiser at no cost. Not to mention tapping into diverse creative powers to provide much welcome escapes and to forge communities online. It is in this same spirit of compassion and imagination that L’Officiel Singapore presents The Creative Issue, hoping that everyone will #stayhome, #staysafe, and of course, #staycreative.
“Creativity lies at the very heart of L’Officiel Singapore. The crisis and Circuit Breaker may pose never-before-seen challenges, but by the strength of our creativity we have and will overcome,” says Ian Lee, Editor-in-Chief of L’Officiel Singapore. “Someone who well embodies such a tenacious spirit is our cover girl, Paris Jackson. The model, actress, and musician opens up about how she found her calling in music, her creative process, and the humanitarian causes she holds dear, as well as her hopes and plans for the future.”
“It’s said that necessity is the mother of invention, and in order to complete The Creative Issue we had to get, well, creative within the confines of four walls,” Lee adds. “Our dynamic duo Chris Scheurich and Ali McNally shot an accessories spread entirely by Polaroid in their New Orleans home. You’ll also find in the issue Instagram art hand-drawn – or rather, finger-drawn – by our team in Singapore and Seoul-based fashion illustrator JaeSuk Kim.”
A whistle stop tour of where the worlds of fashion and art converge is sure to start the creative juices flowing. Start off in STYLE with the collaboration between Dior and Daniel Arsham, and brush up on the works of Picasso and Henri Rousseau in State Of The Art. Then see how face paint gets the high fashion treatment in BEAUTY’s Red Parade and Cloudy With A Chance. More museum-worthy masterpieces can be found in BIJOUX thanks to Cartier, Van Cleef & Arpels, Harry Winston, Patek Philippe, and TAG Heuer. Meanwhile, the (virtual) pages of MODE abounds with artful delights, including the intensely chromatic impasto backgrounds of Dreaming Van Gogh, and a kitschy collage of chic Spring/Summer 2020 looks from Fendi, Issey Miyake, Burberry, and more.
If that’s not enough of a creative boost, scroll to LIVING to find out how Sarissa Rodriguez-Schwartz, who heads various local establishments like Bang Bang Nightclub and Employees Only, is not just coping but thriving in the current climate. Also head to lofficielsingapore.com for cutting-edge content that mirrors the theme of The Creative Issue, such as the new #LOFFICIELONTOUR project, which features daily performances from a list of international talents, and an interview with the founders of No Sleep Club.
