Kenzo's Kansai Yamamoto Collaboration Celebrates 2 Great Artists
In many ways, Kenzo Takada and Kansai Yamamoto's work had several parallels. Both designers fiercely championed individuality and their asian heritage with vivid designs that made waves in Paris and London respectively. Yet, the two never converged creatively until now. Posthumously brought together under Felipe Oliveira Baptista's Kenzo, the collaboration that's available now recontextualises recognisable motifs from each designer and brings them together with a collection of streetwear pieces. “We wanted to keep things very real, raw and spontaneous. A true celebration of life. I believe this is probably how both Kenzo and Kansai would have liked to be remembered. Both who dedicated their lives to infuse joy into the world through their work.” says Baptista of the collaboration.
The items that center around Kenzo's iconic tiger are modern interpretations of the masters' works “Both Kenzo and Kansai believed in comfort «easy to move in» clothes. Both believed that fashion should talk to everyone. With this in mind, we followed a group of young Parisian friends: actors, photographers, models.”
T-shirts that incorporate, spirited illustrations of the Kenzo tiger play-off more graphic interpretations like a boldly striped bucket hat and punk-esque striped trousers. Have a look below for L'Officiel's picks and then click here to shop the collection.
