Italian Elegance: Kim Jones Makes His RTW Debut For Fendi
If last month's Fendi’s couture show was based on a story personal and meaningful to him, with a star-studded cast of friends and family, this dynamic was flipped for Kim Jones’ first ever ready-to-wear show for the storied Roman house.
Shown in a cinematic set featuring a labyrinth of glass-encased Fs, from the iconic Fendi monogram, the collection consisted of luxurious, highly wearable garments for every occasion, in muted tones of pink, nudes and grey.
To christen a new era of the House of Fendi, Jones' collection pays homage to the legends that preceded him. "The Fendi family are women of intellect who work hard – and that’s what I wanted to celebrate,” says the designer. “A powerful dynasty.”
Fur coats, pinstripe motifs, to bell sleeves of washed mink and bonded suede coat are taken from the wardrobes of the five Fendi sisters, including Silvia Venturini Fendi's signature shirt jacket reconfigured into a ruggedly chic shearling.
Jones continues, "I’m taking the amazing, strong women who I both know and work with, and listening to their needs. There’s a usefulness to the collection, explored in a chic, timeless way." This collection is designed with these women in mind: clothing that lends a super-luxurious context to everyday femininity.
