Iris Law: "I Hope To Be A Positive Role Model For Women"
On Instagram, Iris Law's unfiltered photos and personal snapshots garner tens of thousands of likes every day. The 20-year-old model, muse, and actress—as well as the daughter of British actors Jude Law and Sadie Frost, and the goddaughter of Kate Moss—uses her creativity and good-natured outlook to spread positivity to her followers.
Ahead of her acting debut in an upcoming mini-series about the Sex Pistols directed by Danny Boyle (director of Transpotting and Slumdog Millionaire, among others), Law also asumes the role of muse for the latest La Perla collection. Inspired by the '80s and the era's feminine power, the campaign is designed by women, for women, and unveils just in time this Women's History Month. Here, L'OFFICIEL speaks to Law about the special collection and what empowers the young talent.
What was it like working with photographer Indigo Lewin on this La Perla campaign, unveiled during Women's History Month?
Working with Indigo was a dream! I love her work and the way she photographs women so beautifully. She ignores the framework of shooting for the male gaze, which aligns with the powerful designs of La Perla, which similarly empowers women and make them feel sexy for themselves.
This capsule collection celebrates a decade that championed womanhood, the '80s—how do you carry on that legacy ?
I hope to be a positive role model to women. Being a woman is such a beautiful thing and embracing and allowing yourself to feel sexy is also an important part of that. La Perla was founded by a woman and has always been made with the aim of celebrating women and the female form, so I am really happy to be aligning myself with that ethos.
How do the women in your life inspire you and how do you inspire them?
The women in my life inspire me every day through their kindness and hard-working nature. I really like creating nice occasions to reunite or surprise my loved ones, so I hope I inspire my family and friends to value and make the most of each other.
Your voice on social media boasts a confidence that’s so unique to you—what do you do to empower yourself or to feel your most confident?
I practice gratitude and don’t dwell my appearances, because that shouldn’t be the most important thing in life. I try to focus more on what I’m doing in my life or for others.
Who are your '80s fashion and / or music icons and why?
Grace Jones and Leigh Bowery are the epitome of revolutionary fashion icons. They weren’t scared to take risks. I’ve seen some amazing photos of Grace wearing La Perla in the '80s and she just oozes confidence and empowered femininity. Molly Ringwald is also a true '80s icon—I love her effortlessness and full lips.
What are your favorite pieces from this capsule collection?
My favorite pieces are the corsets. I can’t wait to wear them with a little skirt or trousers. It’s great how a lot of the pieces in the collection are really versatile. You can wear them as lingerie but also as ready-to-wear, pairing them with something else in your own wardrobe. It allows you to experiment!
