Illusions of Grandeur with the Best of Pre-Fall 2022

Let regality be a state of mind and hold court in some of Pre-Fall 2022’s statement pieces.

Opulence has always been synonymous with fashion since the era of Marie Antoinette when she devoted her time and expenses to planning her wardrobe and hairstyles for parties to flaunt her luxurious style. Described as the first consumer of Haute Couture fashion, Antoinette has since made a name for herself as the style icon of her time thanks to her extensive penchant for luxury. Since then, her legacy took the world by storm, piquing the public’s interest in extravagant fashion.

Through the many centuries, fashion for the royals has been reimagined countless times. In return for regency and opulence, we saw a rise in the plenitude of lavish and excessive clothing permeating Fashion Week. In the new wave of grandiosity post-pandemic, we go back to our roots and pay tribute to the late Marie Antoinette, honouring the young and fashionable Queen of France.

And in L'Officiel Singapore's June/July Issue, it is the season of decadence. Think voluminosity, extravagance and intricate bijoux.

Adorned in Chanel's coat from the Pre-Fall 2022 collection, tweed is recognised as one of luxury fashion’s most iconic symbols. Paired with a hoop skirt and a pair of white loafers from Hermès, the look is a reimagination of the Rococo style led by Marie Antoinette’s opulent style.

A playful take on Miu Miu’s jacket, shirt, and skirt, the monochromatic blue hues emanate authority and wisdom, creating a statement in itself. Elevated by a pop of colour with Roger Viver’s necklace, it embodies a whimsical style with a touch of modern royalty.

The powdery style comprises a Celine blouse and shorts from Simone Rocha (at Dover Street Market Singapore). As the Rococo style has always been associated with exuberance and playfulness, the look is paired with a pair of fishnet stockings — a symbol of a new era of female sexuality and a heavily ornamented chain belt from Chanel that is styled as a necklace.
Brimming in pink, it is the personification of femininity and romanticism. The model wears a shirt from Max Mara, layered with a blouse from Renli Su (at Dover Street Market Singapore), paired with shorts from the 1 Moncler JW Anderson collection and clear heels from Bottega Veneta, a spin on historical men’s clothing during the Rococo era.

Embellished in earrings from Roger Vivier and a diamond necklace from Swarovski, it emphasises the noble and aristocratic facet of Marie Antoinette’s style. The checkered knit top from Louis Vuitton blasts a contrast of colours, capturing the duality of style.
