It will soon be the Year of the Rat on the lunar calendar, and that means one thing: Mickey Mouse will be swarming your social media feed with his many upcoming collaborations, and the first to announce its fashion collab with the iconic mascot is... Gucci!

Prior to this collaboration, Alessandro Michele had already encountered and featured the iconic mascot in selected looks from the Fall/Winter 2019 collections for men and women. Now, the designer has created an exclusive Chinese New Year collection, where Mickey Mouse takes centre stage as the hero.

Playfully incorporated into diverse accessories and ready-to-wear, from shoes and bags to small leather goods, scarves, and clothing, Mickey colours the CNY collection with plenty of fun elements that keeps true to the Gucci DNA.

And for this Gucci x Mickey Mouse collaboration, Alessandro casts Gucci ambassador and actress Ni Ni again, along with actor Earl Cave, designer, stylist, and poet Zoë Bleu, and a cast of models and muses in a fun-filled campaign shot within the magical Disneyland theme park, photographed by Harmony Korine.

From the Cinderella Castle to attractions like the Mad Tea Party to special Gucci x Mickey Mouse popcorn, Korine captures the cast of stars in a technicolour sphere in which Mickey and his guests goof around, eat popcorn, and pose for pictures.

One of the key highlights of the collection is the Mini GG Supreme Mickey print, which combines the iconic Mini GG Supreme pattern with Mickey Mouse figures in varying scale. This visually pleasing and plauful print, designed in reference to a house fabric from the ‘80s, is used within the collection of shoulder bags, tote bags, card cases, and wallets.

Various bag silhouettes have also been included in the collection, each featuring Mickey himself, including two sizes of backpacks, a double shoulder tote, a top handle tote, a round shoulder bag, and a belt bag.

On shoes, Mickey makes plenty of cameos within the Mini GG Supreme fabric, wherein the mascot is multiplied in miniature all over the new Gucci Tennis 1977 sneaker, a slip-on sneaker, a rubber-soled slide and the Princetown slipper with lambswool lining.

Of course, there are also an array of ready-to-wear pieces available where Mickey is seen on colourful prints, jacquard motifs, and embroidered patches.
