A Look at Gucci's History with its Latest Brand Ambassdor, IU
Recently, Gucci posted an announcement about IU becoming a Global Brand Ambassador on its Instagram page. We take a look at the House's relationship with the South Korean singer-songwriter, record producer and actress.
On May 30, Gucci's Instagram account uploaded a picture of IU wearing an outfit from the brand at the 75th Cannes Film Festival, along with a caption that indirectly announced that IU would become the Global Brand Ambassador, exciting fans everywhere.
Previously, IU was also present in the coastal city of French Riviera, France, in a gorgeous and solemn light blue dress with delicate floral details, to attend the 2022 Cannes Film Festival during the Palme d'Or awards ceremony.
The Nation's Little Sister
IU is one of the most successful singers in Korea, making her debut in 2007 at a very young age as a singer, songwriter and producer. Her first mini-album Lost and Found received attention and recognition from the audience at that time thanks to her powerful, pure and sweet voice. In 2010, "Nagging" - a collab with 2AM's Seul-ong Lim topped the charts on Gaon, helping her bring success and fame to her singing career. Since then, the title "National Little Sister" has been favoured by K-pop audiences for the multi-talented girl. IU then continued to release more albums and songs that won the top 1 of the charts in the domestic and international music arena.
The singer also proved her talent through successful roles in many films such as 'Dream High', 'The Producers', 'Moon Lovers', and recently, 'Hotel del Luna'. The latest project 'Broker' with the participation of IU has recently been selected as the film representing Korea to compete at Cannes.
Following the resounding successes from the music and movie industries, IU has also gradually successfully entered the fashion field with many memorable milestones. On May 30, the 29-year-old singer quickly marked the most impressive milestone in her journey to fashion when she signed a contract with the Gucci fashion House and became a Global Brand Ambassador.
Previously, IU also had the opportunity to work with brands in various fields such as Sony Korea, New Balance shoe company, Le Coq Sportif, G by GUESS, as well as, Samsung. Therefore, it is no wonder that IU's professional demeanour and extensive experience have attracted Gucci's attention since 2020.
IU and Gucci
In February 2020, Gucci confirmed IU as the Brand Ambassador in Korea by posting information that IU will attend the launch of the Fall/Winter 2020 Collection. Since then, she has been working productively in the fashion field and more specifically with Gucci, appearing in projects and red carpets with gorgeous outfits from the brand.
2021 was probably the most promising year for IU. In June, she participated in Gucci Beloved, the advertising campaign for four signature Gucci bag lines. Right after that, she featured in the Gucci Aria campaign with Kai, Gucci's other Global Brand Ambassador then.
Throughout the year, IU appeared continuously on social networking sites and the website of the Italian fashion House for the 2021 Holiday Gift Guides campaign. In outfits from Gucci, IU became the centre of attention with her elegant demeanour, showing a mature and attractive image.
IU also participated in Gucci's 100th anniversary at the Gucci Garden Archetypes exhibition, Seoul - a lively experience that explores and celebrates designer Gucci in 15 advertising campaigns about the image, vision and heritage of Gucci. It also marks her status as a Gucci Global Ambassador.
