Clare Waight Keller Named Artistic Director Of Givenchy
Just an hour ago, the French couture house posted a portrait of its founder, Hubert de Givenchy. Minutes later: a quote, "True elegance comes with a natural gesture, an attitude in simplicity." Afterwards, a Steven Meisel portraiture of Clare Waight Keller (formerly of Chloé) appears.
This confirms Waight Keller's appointment at the brand, which recently parted ways with former creative director Riccardo Tisci after a 12-year tenure. Under his leadership, the house adopted celebrity culture and streetwear — the label is championed by musicians Kanye West and his wife, Kim Kardashian, Madonna, Erykah Badu and MIA among others. By contrast, Waight Keller, through her work at Chloé, developed a reputation for her calm demeanour, effortless designs, and highly-coveted accessories.
For sure, we're about to see a huge change at Givenchy. Keller, like Maria Grazia Chiuri at Dior, is the first female to lead the Parisian fashion house. We can't wait to see what she'll present at her first collection for Givenchy later this year for Spring/Summer 2018.
