From Boho Chic To Black Birkins: Mary-Kate And Ashley Olsen's Iconic Style Moments

Mary-Kate and Ashley have been known to take twinning to the next level, as demonstrated here as they pose in their adorable floral overalls.  

While supermodels like Bella Hadid and Kendall Jenner rock tiny sunglasses today, here is photographic evidence that Mary-Kate and Ashley invented the trend way back, while also modelling powerful matching sets. Paco Rabanne SS19, anyone?

These classic '90s 'fits show just how versatile the Olsen twins can be. With those Blossom-inspired hats, Mary-Kate and Ashley demonstrate once again their knack for predicting the biggest trends of this decade.  

With their matching hair clips and platform wedges, we're just glad the twins colour coded their slip dresses for the night and made it a little easier for us to tell them apart (fun fact: they're actually fraternal twins, not identical).

Only the Olsen Twins could rock what seem to be pashminas as skirts and cardigans to the premiere of this Jodie Foster flick. Still, with their strappy shoes and '90s 'dos, this stylish duo prove they've mastered the subtle art of coordination. 

Reminiscent of Yves Saint Laurent's seminal Mondrian dresses of the '60s, Mary-Kate and Ashley flaunt their fashion prowess in front of the Sydney Opera House for one of their wildly popular films, Our Lips Are Sealed. 

Perhaps the beginning of the twins' boho chic era, the Olsens layer it up in these '70s-inspired looks, which are perfect for that chilly London weather.

Possibly everyone's favourite MK & Ashley movie, New York Minute was an eclectic collection of early noughties trends, where the Olsen twins proved they could rock any style. 

Moving beyond their twinning period, Mary-Kate and Ashley received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in 2004, which also appears to be the start of their enigmatic smiles for the paparazzi. 

This was the Olsen twins' first appearance at the Met Gala, and their looks have only gotten more iconic (and eccentric) with every year. Here, the twins develop their individual styles as Mary-Kate rocked auburn tresses and a vintage boho gown, while Ashley stunned in an Oscar de la Renta dress and blonde, beachy waves.

In honor of the recent viral images of Mary-Kate and Ashley "mistreating" their Birkins, we had to honour just how long this uber stylish pair has been rocking the legendary bag in black, natch.

Making a successful career switch for one night, Mary-Kate and Ashley drew a huge crowd at Fashion's (First) Night Out as they tended the bar. What could be more stylish than showing off their skills?

Majorly chic in YSL at the opening of the opera Le Comte Ory in New York, Mary-Kate and Ashley have come a long way from their bright, matchy-matchy outfits of the 1990s.

Six years after founding their luxury label, The Row, Mary-Kate and Ashley took home the prestigious CFDA award for Womenswear Designer of the Year. While the twins rock totally different styles here, we love seeing their classic tight-knit twin pose again.

While these intricately styled looks may not have fit the Met Gala's theme that year, which honoured Rei Kawakubo and Comme des Garçons, they were unabashedly eclectic in these dramatic outfits, marking a complete style evolution for the twins. Could you imagine the Olsens wearing these back in the day? Neither could we.

Clad in head-to-toe neutrals, the Olsens step out carrying to-go coffee cups, which have since become a staple accessory in their everyday wardrobe. 

Their outfits may not exactly be "camp", but they certainly are unique to Mary-Kate and Ashley's now-signature dark, minimalist style.  

Always expertly bundled up for the NYC weather, this classic street style moment came just a few weeks before we all entered lockdown. Hopefully the twins will grace us with their sense of chic again soon.
