First Look: Calvin Klein 205W39NYC Pre-Fall 2018 Collection
Calvin Klein 205W39NYC — the label that everyone has been watching closely since Raf Simons was named its chief creative officer — has just unveiled its Pre-Fall 2018 collection.
The main line under the Calvin Klein family and the brainchild of Raf Simons, the 205W39NYC collection is one that continuously showcases Raf's vision and aesthetics of the "New Americana". For this season, Raf has, once again, engaged two organisations to further realise his vision: The Andy Warhol Foundation for the Visual Arts and Pendleton Woolen Mills.
Part of Calvin Klein's ongoing collaboration with The Andy Warhol Foundation for the Visual Arts, this collection features a series of printed styles that revives many of Andy Warhol's masterpieces.
Among them are the vivid Warhol florals and images of the American flag lensed in stark black and white against open skies, all of which are incorporated into the men's and women's collection.
From men's tank tops and denim featuring the American flag to the black-and-white floral-printed bags and boots, the marriage between Warhol and Calvin Klein is one we are most excited for every season.
Warhol aside, the Pre-Fall 2018 collection also saw the collaboration of the Calvin Klein label and American heritage brand Pendleton Woolen Mills.
Typically worked into its line of saddle blankets, the craftsmanship of Pendleton Woolen Mills has now been translated into ready-to-wear in the form of outerwear and bags for both men and women.
Applauded for its representation of the mythology of American cowboys, Native Americans, settlers, coeds, skaters and The Beach Boys alike, the masterpieces born between the two brands perfectly fit Raf's ideology of "New Americana."
Since his appointment in 2016, Raf has continued to challenge conventional mindsets of fashion. He is a visionary who is not afraid to marry provocative creativity (from the likes of Warhol) with American tradition and heritage (that of Pendleton and the house of Calvin Klein itself), all whilst breaking every rule in the fashion game.
So who better to bring life to the collection than Raf's longtime collaborators, Belgian stylist Olivier Rizzo and photographer Willy Vanderperre? The pair shot the collection in a barn-like setting that continues the story from Calvin Klein's Spring/Summer 2018 campaign.
