Fernanda Ly Returns as the Star of Kate Spade's Fall 2017 Campaign
Paris in the 1920s is a creative melting pot – one that encouraged strong and interesting women to shine. Which is why the romantic city, along with three of its heroines, was chosen as Kate Spade New York’s inspiration for fall.
First, there’s Louis Brooks, the quintessential flapper. Then, le coquelicot (the poppy) in French, a famous painting by Kees Van Dongen of a mysterious woman known for her bold beauty. Finally, Josephine Baker, a global jazz age icon and an American who followed her dreams to Paris.
So did Josephine Baker ever return to America? We’re not sure, but Fernanda Ly sure did. In the Fall 17 film, Fernanda Ly stops at a classic New York diner for steak frites, with her vintage finds and cats in tow. She sits at the diner counter while French music plays in the background; she dances and everyone joins in, creating an iconic New York City moment of joy for herself and everyone around.
