Earthy Hues Meet Vibrant Pops of Colour at Fendi's Women SS23 Show
Fendi's Women Spring/Summer 2023 show saw explosions of colour amidst muted earthy tones.
The juxtaposition of colours and textures stood out in Fendi's Women Spring/Summer 2023 collection. The runway saw models strutting in earth-toned ensembles, elevated with pops of colour via vibrant hues of lime green, coral pink, and cornflower blue. The most prominent contrast came in a familiar coupling of brown and lime green – a colour block reminiscent of the once-popular Shaggycore trend on social media. The show also saw a contradiction in materials, blending woolly textures with that of latex, silks with knitwear, and so on and so forth.
Another highlight of the show was the debut of two iconic bags: The updated Peekaboo – now presented with chained straps, and the miniature Fendi First bags, also adorned by chains. "Everything comes from the conversation around the double F which makes us see things in couples," says Silvia Venturini Fendi. "Even the bags become part of a family: big and small."
Ultimately, the collection followed Kim Jones' usual approach of adapting Fendi's archives to the trends of the present. "It's about continuity," he says. "I am interested in looking at things that Karl has done, and seeing how we can develop them – both visually and technically." A fun and youthful expression of Fendi's that brightened Milan Fashion Week.
