Fendi Sets the Tone at Milan Fashion Week with Chiffon and Tweed

The Italian Fashion House defies rigid structure by mixing soft and dark colours with light and heavy materials.

Fendi's Autumn/Winter 2022 show left no questions as to what's to be expected from Kim Jones for next season.

As Bella Hadid opened the show, a procession of soft chiffons patchworked together with ruffled details and finishes dominated the runway in forms of day dresses, tops and trousers. The toned out pastel colours of the chiffon materials were contrasted with bright gloves and accessories such as orange fur bags tied in by the seafoam green bloomers that peeped through the pale see-through material.

To add a bit more structure, black and white checked trousers and pencil skirts were paired with chiffon tops and complemented by cloud-like fur outwear, alternating between longer and cropped fits. As the colour palette progressively shifted from light pastels to darker shades of brown, grey and navy, a change in the materials was also noticed. Jones offered similar silhouettes but in heavier textiles of tweed, leather and denim with the occasional touch of chiffon ruffles at the seams.

When it comes to the accessories, Silvia Vinturini Fendi expressed the House’s dedication to craftsmanship through their 'hand in hand' project by presenting fur interactions of the Fendi First and oversized shopper. To celebrate the Baguette’s 25th anniversary, three of its beloved previous editions were revived in beautiful cashmere, shearling-lined leather, and intarsia mink.

Delfina Delettrez designed the jewellery and gave us ear cuffs in supersized monograms, tennis bracelets with inset baguette crystals for an allusion to the FF logo and the Master Key motif suspended from earrings to unlock every door.

The nature of Fendi's Autumn/Winter 2022 Collection drew its inspiration from the archives, as Jones turned to two specific collections designed by the late Karl Lagerfeld: Fendi's Spring/Summer 1986 and Autumn/Winter 2000. Overall, the collection showcased a playful edge to daytime looks while instilling a fresh sexiness into the evening ones. Jones sought to design a wardrobe suitable for every aspect of a woman’s life and for every generation.
