Fendace: An Exclusive Swap of Creative Codes between Fendi and Versace
The cross of designers between Fendi and Versace sees each House’s codes reinvented through a different lens.
Fendace is the lovechild of Fendi’s Kim Jones and Versace’s Donatella Versace, with the two Italian maisons shuffling their roles and brand codes in this mega-brand swap. Fendi’s savoir-faire is recast through Versace’s lens, and Versace’s signature seductive style is given a Fendi touch. The Fendace experience was first shown at the joint fashion show last September in Milan, and is brought to fruition through the swapped styles from the collection.
The Fendace world is built through two campaign videos, set in a Fendace nightclub featuring a lineup of glamorous models including Lina Zhang and Anok Yai dripping in full Fendace gear, getting past the nightclub’s bouncers: Naomi Campbell and Kristen McMenamy. Of course, the password to enter is none other than Fendace. Alongside the glitzy videos shot by Alec Maxwell are the collection’s images captured by iconic photographer Steven Meisel.
Through Fendace, Fendi’s considered approach to craftsmanship meets Versace’s more-is-more attitude. The collection is fun and emotive, with the combination of codes from both brands. The Fendace Baguette and Peekaboo bags take on the silhouettes of Fendi’s iconic bags and top them with Versace’s codes, underlining both brands’ mutual dedication and respect for each other. Logomania makes an appearance in this decadent collection – seen through a combination of Versace’s Medusa and Fendi’s FF logo.
The Fendace collection is a celebration of both Houses and of the things that make each of the Maisons unique. The friendship and energy shared between Donatella Versace and Kim Jones is palpable, channelled through each Fendace piece.
The collection is divided through Fendi and Versace online and retail boutiques; with Fendi presenting the VERSACE BY FENDI collection, and FENDI BY VERSACE styles available at Versace boutiques and the brand’s online store. A capsule of joint Fendace branded looks is available from both fashion houses.
