Have a look at summer's go-to trend, as seen on the Spring/Summer 2024 runway
We all know the crochet trend returns every summer, but it's more popular than ever this year. Driven by the return of boho chic, a sexy and eccentric trend, this style has also spread with crochet accessories like tote bags and hats that have gone viral. Ideal for holidays – from Ibiza to Mykonos, via Capri, Puglia, Portofino and St. Tropez, crochet dresses, trousers, skirts and swimsuits dominate Summer 2024.
The most famous It-girls of the moment have immediately embraced this trend, like Elsa Hosk or Bella Hadid who regularly show it off on their Instagram profiles. The catwalks of Milan and Paris have also demonstrated that crochet garments are the must-have ensembles of the season.
Chloé emphasised the bohemian side of crochet in a Spring/Summer 2024 collection that celebrated the freedom and lightness of summer, with pieces that recall outdoor festivals and summer evenings on Mediterranean islands.
Stella McCartney, known for her commitment to sustainable fashion, has also used crochet to create pieces that mix green ethics with luxury aesthetics. Her crochet dresses, made with eco-friendly yarns, feature geometric patterns and modern cuts, perfect for a chic and responsible summer look. Matthieu Blazy from Bottega Veneta, on the other hand, chose to create one of the most beautiful looks of the season using an unusual material for fashion, paper, which mixed with viscose creates an amazing crochet effect.
Marco Rambaldi presented a collection that celebrates freedom and individuality, with colourful and bold crochet pieces. The geometric patterns and vibrant colour combinations added a touch of energy and dynamism to the collection, in both female and male proposals. The man in crochet is just as sexy as the woman, as in the all-over model by Amiri, where crochet is used in the headdress, in the blouse and the tote bag.
Roberto Cavalli's models play with crochet sensually and boldly, with tight-fitting dresses that enhance the female form. And the dark shades add a touch of mystery, perfect when paired with summer tans.
Ermanno Scervino, who combined crochet with lace details and embroidery, created ethereal and romantic dresses. The colour palette, dominated by whites and pastels, enhanced the delicacy of the garments, making them ideal for special summer occasions. Genny used crochet to create refined and sophisticated garments, perfect for summer evenings.
