Mugler began his career in the early '70s in Paris at the fashion house Karin. His work was marked by broad shoulders and a penchant for theatricality. In particular, Mugler's work was noticeably inspired by the 1940s in its tailoring. The mix of sharply defined pieces and futuristic influences set the designer's work apart from his contemporaries.
