Every Look From Burberry's Spring/Summer 2024 Collection
Daniel Lee continues to reinterpret Burberry's signature trench coat in his own way.
After being appointed the new creative director of Burberry following Riccardo Tisci's departure, Daniel Lee has focused on dialing back to the House's signature codes. His debut Fall/Winter 2023 collection proved this, as he toed the line between heritage and contemporary. For his Spring/Summer 2024 show, Lee continues his quest for leaning into legacy and embracing quintessential Britishness, this time inclined towards prints and "the cliches of British fruits and English meadows."
Sitting front row enjoying the show were stars such as Thai actor Bright Vachirawit, rapper Burna Boy, actress Jodie Comer and many more.
The show once again opens with a trench (perhaps this will be a new tradition Lee maintains). And once again, it's a trench unlike the iconic tan overcoat the British House has become known for. Hitting slightly below the knees, featuring a low waist, oversized shoulders, and a one-sided lapel, Lee updates the garment with a new cut and modern details. This fresh twist on trench coats remains a theme throughout the collection, with the styles ranging from sleeveless to graphically printed to leather fabricated.
Rather than stay exclusively neutral-toned, Lee explored a range of colorways and prints, from bright red to bold blue to groundbreaking florals. Finding the ease that is typically expected in spring collections, there was a noticeable emphasis on movement, as garments found fluidity with each step models took. Be it the design choice of using fringe and flowy silhouettes or the styling choice of relaxed fit coats hanging off the shoulders for a laid-back appeal, any sense of polishedness or formality was overtaken by a greater feeling of lightness and sensuality.
