Discover The Inspiration Behind Dior's Fall 2020 Show As Told By Maria Grazia Chiuri
Feminist statements have become a hallmark of Maria Grazia Chiuri's collections for Dior, and the Fall 2020 show was no exception. In collaboration with the Claire Fontaine collective, the set was decorated with bold neon phrases like "Consent", "Women Raise The Uprising", and "Patriarchy Kills Love", which felt particularly meaningful seeing as the show took place less than a day following Harvey Weinstein's guilty verdicts.
While the show reflected the turbulent times we live in now, in the exclusive video below, Chiuri shares that Dior's Fall 2020 collection came from a deeply personal place. Her starting point was a pair of photographs of her mother taken when the designer was a teenager (the period in Rome when she first became exposed to the women's rights movement). Chiuri also mined her own teenage diary, along with founding couturier Christian Dior's The Little Dictionary Of Fashion.
The result was a coherent collection of 85 looks featuring denim jackets and jeans, cotton and leather jumpsuits, fluid dresses, fishnets and combat boots, a logo tee reading "I Say I", and Monsieur Dior's favourite checked pattern (and more).
