Chanel Takes Flight at the Grand Palais For its Spring/Summer 2025 Show
The French fashion house returned to the Grand Palais in Paris for the first time since its reopening.
Just steps from the iconic Champs-Élysées, Chanel makes its grand return to the historic Grand Palais, which had been closed for renovations since 2021. Though the storied fashion house is currently without a creative director, expectations were high for an awe-inspiring venue—one that could evoke the grandeur of past spectacles like the unforgettable Karl Lagerfeld supermarket, the cruise ship, or the whimsical carousel. For the highly anticipated women’s Spring/Summer 2025 collection, Chanel transformed the prestigious Parisian landmark into an enormous aviary, its intricate metal cage bathed in light beneath the glass roof.
As the show unfolded, ethereal summer designs floated down the runway—light, delicate, and in motion. Transparencies, soft pastels, and signature touches like bows and tweed paid homage to the legendary vision of Coco Chanel. While the house remains without a creative director, the collection reflected the ongoing dedication of Chanel’s design team. Iconic pieces such as the timeless tweed suit, classic skirt-and-jacket sets, layered chiffon, romantic floral dresses, and modern denim dominated the catwalk, each look a nod to the maison’s rich heritage.
In a dramatic finale, Riley Keough captivated the audience, swinging gracefully inside the aviary on a giant swing, encircled by models who gathered beneath the expansive white cage. The purity of the cage’s design stood in striking contrast to the lush greenery of the Grand Palais. Despite the departure of creative director Virginie Viard, Chanel’s legacy endures, with each collection a testament to the brand’s timeless elegance as the fashion world eagerly awaits the appointment of a new visionary to guide its future.
