After two successful showings at the Saatchi gallery in London in 2015 and the D Museum in Seoul just last year, Chanel's Mademoiselle Privé exhibition will continue its journey to Hong Kong in the new year.
Just like its predecessors, the Hong Kong edition of this immersive showcase is an ode to the Chanel universe that explores its origins, creative processes, and everything else in between those world-famous interlocking Cs. It will be staged in the city’s creative landmark of PMQ and run for over four weeks – giving guests ample opportunity to immerse themselves in the dazzling history of the House through the three key pillars established by Gabrielle Chanel herself: haute couture, haute joaillerie, and CHANEL N°5.
Inside Mademoiselle Privé
Upon arrival, guests will be greeted by a replica of the famous Chanel facade at 31 rue Cambon – the legendary address that is the very heart of Gabrielle Chanel's Maison de Couture. Once inside, the journey begins in the Red Garden. Laid out like a labyrinth in vibrant shades of vermillion and burgundy, the contemporary mise-en-scène features a 3D imagining of a Chanel archival abstract textile pattern by Russian artist Ilia Zdanevitch.
A walk down the garden path will lead guests into a stark white box, which hosts the iconic Chanel N°5 fragrance. The space invites an interaction with the perfume's five essential raw ingredients – May rose, jasmine, ylang ylang, sandalwood, and aldehydes — and a thorough study of the process from extraction to creation. Upstairs, guests will arrive at the world of haute couture, which shines a spotlight on two of the House's most iconic garments: the little black dress (designed by Gabrielle Chanel in 1933) and Karl Lagerfeld's contemporary tweed suit from the Fall/Winter 2011/12 Haute Couture collection. Finally, the exhibition culminates with a striking display of the famous 1932 high jewellery collection, ‘Bijoux de Diamants' and a screening of Lagerfeld's very own short film, Visite Nocturne, in which he pays homage to Gabrielle Chanel.
To enhance visitors' experience at the exhibition, the new Mademoiselle Privé mobile app will be available for download on iTunes and GooglePlay. Through the free app, guests can view teaser content, book their time slots, and register for the workshops held within the exhibition space.
