Celine Unveils First Campaign by Hedi Slimane

The black-and-white series will feature young artists, musicians and models picked by Slimane.

While some of us are still warming up to the new, "é"-less Celine logo revealed last week, the brand has given us yet another talking point: the first Celine campaign by Hedi Slimane. So far, only two images have been released, but they're pretty telling of the new direction that Slimane is taking. For one, Slimane has traded Juergen Teller's signature high-flash analogue photos that Celine had often used in past campaigns for black-and-white, 6x6 format portraits.

Photographed in the Paris couture house in July 2018, the portraits are a part of an ongoing photography series that will feature young artists, musicians and models. The photos are also reminsicent of Slimane's previous campaigns for Saint Laurent, which were shot in a similar style and fronted by famous faces ranging from fashion icons like Cara Delevingne and Jane Birkin to rockstars (Marilyn Manson, Kim Gordon and Courtney Love, to name a few). Should we expect someone with equal celebrity cred to grace Celine's campaigns in future? Only time will tell.
