Celine’s Women’s Summer 2022 'Baie des Anges' is presented through the form of a short film shot by Hedi Slimane as models strut down the historical 'Promenade des Anglais' in Nice. The Mediterranean coast is probably one of France’s most iconic seafronts, where quintessential luxury and art de vivre rule.
The 'Promenade des Anglais' acquired its name from the English Aristocracy as they knew the French Riviera to be the ideal place to take up a home as their second residence during the harsh English winters. Of the many high society families that voyaged down to the South, it was the Royal Family’s repeated holidays that strengthened the reputation of the Cote d’Azur across the British Empire. Queen Victoria’s frequent visits left a lasting impression on the coastal city as she stayed at The Grand Hotel and at Hotel Regina, which she opened in 1897.
The film is set in front of the centenarian Palace, Le Negresco, a symbol of the “belle epoque” and the neo-classical movements of the French Riviera. Since its doors opened in 1913, Le Negresco is famous for hosting an array of international artists, politicians and royalty all throughout the 20th Century.
