Awash in Simplicity: 50 Years of Bottega Veneta
A casual scan of Bottega Veneta's Spring/Summer 2017 collection reaffirmed creative director Tomas Maier's ethos of creating a brand – and a brand of luxury – that is timeless. Presented at Milan's Brera Fine Arts Academy, the show offered up strong silhouettes in muted tones normally associated with Fall, punctuated with flashes of jewel tones.
The German-born designer, who studied mid-century Japanese architecture, held the collection to the same exacting standards and practicality of architural principals. Beyond the meticulous detailing lay an unwavering dedication towards cultivating a refined appreciation for luxury, with elegance as the main tenet. In an era geared towards the "see now, buy now", the brand remained rooted in its values of presenting a tightly curated collection of classics that transcends seasons.
