Blow Up: The Supersized Fall/Winter 2019 Trend
Big Bag Theory
This season, it’s fine to carry around a lot of baggage. We mean that literally: Off-White, Longchamp and Lanvin all gave us oversized options to stuff our things in. Even Jacquemus, which caused a stir over its tiny Mini Chiquito bag, had gargantuan tote bags on its runway. The secret to not looking bogged down by their weight? Go for padded handbags or airy shoulder bags.
Super Shades
Summer may be over but that’s no reason for you to give up your oversized sunglasses. This season, Givenchy and Fendi featured larger-than-life “shield” styles with connected lenses. And because there won’t be much sunshine out to actually shield your eyes from, brands like Chloe and Loewe also showed styles with clear lenses. But if you find yourself missing the sunny days, go for those yellow lensed-offerings that popped up at Max Mara, Gucci and Michael Kors.
Double The Drama
Forget subtlety. Fall 2019 calls for earrings that go on for days, whether they’re studded with rhinestones or in-your- face embellishments like feathers and tassels. The mismatched earrings trend isn’t going anywhere either, so take notes from Givenchy and Chloe on how to create a surprising but balanced pair. And if that’s too much work, just go with a single earring – it’s enough to make a statement all on its own, as proven by Rodarte and Louis Vuitton.
Top Heavy
Puffy-sleeved blouses, oversized jackets and imposing coats: the Fall 2019 shows put up a formidable front with all manner of oversized tops to brave the season in. These could be paired with equally roomy clothing like the wide-leg pants at Gucci for a slouchy silhouette, but other brands like Off-White and Saint Laurent preferred form-fitting dresses to further dwarf the figure. Either way, your tops will have you pretty much covered.
