Blackpink's 'Pink Venom' Music Video Doubled As A Fashion Film
See our girls in outfits befitting their status as K-Pop royalty.
Our girls are back, bigger and better than ever before. Each comeback of Blackpink's is greater in production value than the last, and 'Pink Venom' is no exception. The group's latest music video, which has already garnered a whopping 161 million views on YouTube since its release on Saturday, is part of their upcoming album Born Pink – their second studio album to date. Our four stars of Blackpink sing, dance and rap in 'Pink Venom'; and of course, it goes without saying – they look stunning. One can’t help but notice the many, many great outfits featured in the video.
It may just be three minutes and thirteen seconds, but it’s a full fashion film for sure. Lisa, Jennie, Rosé and Jisoo embody a wide array of looks from many designers, with a touch of cultural Korean dress. It’s clear that the Blackpink’s stylist wanted to use their looks as a key focus of the music video – with Lisa and Jennie alluding to or even namedropping brands in the song.
Below, we show you the best style moments from Blackpink’s 'Pink Venom' MV.
Designer Looks
Each member of Blackpink is an ambassador of a major luxury fashion house, and 'Pink Venom' has given them the opportunity to rep their favourite labels once again.
Lisa in Celine
When Lisa raps, we listen. And when she raps about Celine, you know we’re gonna be all ears. After the first chorus, Lisa sports a Celine bucket hat with the house's logo scrawled across the front. She spits, “This da life of a vandal, masked up and I’m still in Celine. Designer crimes or it wouldn’t be me.” Against the dark, street scenography, the crisp white draws all eyes in.
Jennie in Chanel
There’s a reason why Korean netizens have bestowed upon Jennie the title of “Human Chanel”. The 'SOLO' singer was seen sporting a few Chanel pieces throughout the MV, but the one that caught our eye came in the second chorus. She was wearing the Chanel boots. Paired with a mini denim playsuit, the sleek rainboots added an edgier, high-fashion touch to Jennie’s otherwise cutesy look.
Jisoo in Dior
Dior makes an unsurprising appearance on Jisoo, who marries the classic, feminine elegance of the Maison with Blackpink’s girl-crush energy. The sleeveless cropped tank, in particular, shows the more contemporary side of Dior that Jisoo embodies effortlessly.
Rosé in Saint Laurent
The vocal goddess of the group, Rosé takes rocker-girl chic to the next level. Her monochromatic ensemble shows us the versatility of black, grounded in a latex minidress by Saint Laurent. Rosé’s icy hair makes for the perfect contrast, falling right in line with the cool-girl aesthetic that defines Blackpink.
Jisoo in Miss Sohee & Naschenka
In the opening scene of Pink Venom, Blackpink's resident "Miss Korea" plays the geogmungo, a traditional Korean instrument. Jisoo has long been proud of her culture, and she shows it. The first time we lay eyes on Jisoo, she appears in a gown from Miss Sohee, a Korean demi-couturier who took inspiration from Korean folk art for her FW22 collection. The adornments on Jisoo's hands and hair are from another Korean brand – Naschenka – that specialises in traditional Korean accessories, popularly used for Korean period dramas.
Y2K Core
Jisoo’s Headband and Daisy Dukes
Channelling Y2K realness is Jisoo. In faded daisy dukes and a modified ruffled top, it’s a callback to the red carpet looks of the 2000s. When you top it all off with the braided headbands running across her hair, it’s obvious Jisoo is serving Y2K with her own flair. All we can say is that we’re here for it.
Lisa’s Mini Skirt
If we say Miu Miu, the first thing that probably comes to mind is that miniskirt and sweater set. In 'Pink Venom', Lisa dons a miniskirt that calls out to us, in the same way. The raw-hemmed and layered look adds so much drama to her silhouette. Iconic.
Jennie’s Low-Waist Moment
In the first chorus, Jennie rocks a pair of low-rise trousers. Jazzed up with body chains all across her midriff, the understated colour palette lets the details take centre stage. Her hip-length hair extensions also provide another layer of chic to the overall look.
Rosé & Jisoo’s Chokers
Jisoo and Rosé accessorise with chokers in the MV, with drastically different styles. This '90s/early '00s trend finds itself on the necks of two of the most influential Korean artists. Rosé wears hers layered, the YSL gold heart choker sitting squarely atop the wrap necklace. And Jisoo’s lacy, drop-pearl piece was definitely a sweeter rendition of the choker trend.
Special Mention
Jennie & Lisa's Athletic Chic
One of our favourite scenes in the MV was when rapper duo Jennie and Lisa donned sporty-chic numbers in the middle of 'Pink Venom'. In a custom Manchester United jersey that reads “Born Pink” in the front, Jennie stacks rows of pearls in a unique high-low fashion moment. Lisa’s bright red ultra-cropped hockey jersey bares her matching underwear set. And we spotted yet another Y2K trend on her – the whale tail peeking out from under her undone overalls.
With 'Pink Venom', Blackpink is irrefutably on the forefront of fashion, and we’re all just reeling from the many iconic looks. Who knew their music videos could deliver just as much style?
