The Dior Women Cruise 23 collection was a celebration of Spanish heritage. Take a look at all of the highlights from the show here.
Trust Dior to base a collection on a rich culture and execute it in the most beautiful way possible. The House's modern eye adds a touch of romanticism to the traditional Spanish equestrian attire – the main inspiration for Dior Women's Cruise 23 show held earlier today at the Plaza de España in the city of Seville in Spain.
"The relationship between Dior and Spain, or more specifically Andalusia, dates back to the 1950s and has been strengthened ever since, with creative journeys leading to creations," says the House in a statement.
Besides its significant location, the show also featured the best of the Spanish fine arts before and during the course of the presentation. Flamenco dance (particularly, the legacy of flamenco dancer Carmen Amaya) represented the very essence of the show – with two dancers performing their art to the sounds of orchestral music, backed by an ensemble of women in red dancing in the background.
Led by creative director Maria Grazia Chiuri, Dior collaborated with the country's finest craftsmen – specialising in equestrian skills from embroidery to metalworking – to bring the true spirit of Spain to the runway. “Fashion is a community endeavour, a way to celebrate all that we do together," says Chiuri. "I feel the energy of the artists in a very strong way."
"This is like a couture collection of leather materials, and it's really exciting because we were able to create something new and unique, and also because it gave the space an opportunity. only us but also local artisans, to increase our knowledge and find another way to apply traditional art," she continues.
Highlights from the collection include intricately embroidered blazers and Saddle bags, poofy ruffle dresses in a series of royal colours, equestrian vests, belts, and outerwear, as well as leather-covered riding pants, among other cultural motifs.
