Daniel Lee exits Bottega Veneta: We revisit his most iconic designs
Since joining the brand as its creative director in 2018, British designer Daniel Lee has breathed new life into Bottega Veneta with fresh designs and colour palettes that appealed to a new generation of fashion lovers.
From A-list celebrities like Justin Bieber and Rihanna, to major fashion influencers like Leonie Hanne, Daniel Lee's designs have been spotted on the streets at many a fashion week. Here's a look back at some of his most iconic styles and creations that gave rise to the era of the "New Bottega."
During his time at Bottega Veneta, Lee was not one to shy away from bold colours. One shade, however, has become synonymous with the fashion house. The bright green hue — referred to as "Bottega Green" — was used in Bottega Veneta's Spring 2021 ready-to-wear collection. One of the most popular shades of the year, it was seen across the brand's apparel, handbags, shoes and other accessories.
Arguably Lee’s most popular design, the Pouch Bag style was introduced by Lee during his debut collection for Bottega Veneta’s Spring 2019 collection. Crafted in calfskin leather that gently folded to resemble a pouch, it featured a minimalist logo design and became an instant hit with celebrities and fashionistas alike. The Pouch bag has gained “it bag” status; since then, it has got a revamp in the Chain Pouch, introduced in Spring/Summer 2020, featuring a more linear body and a chunky chain strap.
Lee’s “it" creations didn't stop there. At Bottega Veneta’s pre-fall 2019 collection, he introduced the Cassette Bag, which featured a rectangular body and an oversized weave. Lee took the design a step further with the introduction of the Padded Cassette design.
The Lido Sandal is definitely one of Lee's most highly coveted shoe designs. It incorporates Bottega Veneta's signature intrecciato leather weave and resembles the Cassette Bag with its padded style.
Named after actress Jodie Foster, the Jodie bag is Lee’s modern take on Bottega Veneta’s hobo bag. Made in Bottega Veneta’s signature Interecciato weave, the bag comes in a variety of sizes and colours. Lee’s version introduced a stylish knot on the bag’s handle.
For the fashion house's fall 2020 collection, Lee introduced yet another cult-favourite footwear style: The Puddle Boots. These chunky rubber rain boots have been seen on celebrities like Justin Bieber and A$AP Rocky.
Another one of Lee's shoe creations that has been making waves this summer is the mesh sandal. Available in a variety of colours, the trend has spread like wildfire and this design has been spotted on celebrities like Rihanna, Nicki Minaj and Jordyn Woods.
