Celebrities are All for the '90s Schoolgirl-Chic Style Trend
The 'Clueless' vibes were real with celebrities seen recently at Paris Fashion Week earlier this month. Some of the hottest stars rocked up to Dior and Chanel's shows channelling their inner Cher Horowitz, injecting some serious personal style to the '90s schoolgirl aesthetic.
Model Romee Strijd edged out the pinafore dress for her look at the Dior show. Her tan pinafore dress with a pleated mini skirt was layered over a white, sleeveless shirt and accessorised with chunky, lace-up boots to create a preppy, street-chic aesthetic that is just perfect for spring.
The ever-stylish girls of Blackpink – Jisoo and Jennie – sported two of the most talked-about looks of the event. Jisoo went all out 'Clueless' with a Dior ensemble that was reminiscent of Cher’s iconic, yellow twinset. Teaming a yellow plaid, zip-up front mini dress with a crispy white shirt and a black tie. The look also infused the punk-pop influences of the era with the clean, chic, tailored aesthetics of contemporary fashion. She cleverly softened the rather edgy look by accessorising with ultra-feminine, classic accessories like black pumps and Dior's Lady Dior bag in black, patent leather. The glossy shine of the patent leather bag made an utterly chic statement, contrasting perfectly against the matte tones of the Dior ambassador's outfit.
Jennie went for a grunge-glam-inspired schoolgirl look, opting for a classic '90s colour combination of black and white with hints of gold in the accessories for added drama. Her look comprised of a black tweed crop top and a slightly oversized velvet embroidered blouson jacket with a matching skirt. The pitch-black velvet was another subtle nod to the early '90s.
White lace, bow detail ankle socks and chunky black platform heels added a retro flair and a touch of girlish charm which was further enhanced by her adorable, milkmaid braid hairdo, accessorised with black ribbons peeking through the side. She completed the look with a darling, black Chanel minaudière with gold accents for a touch of old glamour, perfectly complementing the gold tones of her layered necklaces.
For her look at the Chanel show, Georgia May Jagger put a sexy, glam-rock twist on the pleated skirt and blazer combination, proving that you can never have too much sultry black lace. The British model was spotted in a stunning, all-black look that featured a sheer turtleneck tucked into a pleated leather mini skirt and lace tights. The fishnet stockings feel of the turtleneck and tights added to the rockstar glamour of the look while a long black blazer added to the preppy-punk schoolgirl vibe.
This is one look that just kept giving, as the edgier, monochrome black ensemble was sweetened up sugary pops of ultra-girlish, Fuschia pinks in the form of gold-accented Chanel earrings that featured a glassy, round drop pendant and a matching quilted bag with gold hardware. The addition of pink lent a glam-rock barbie feel to the outfit while a gold-tone Chanel choker necklace added a touch of sparkle layered over the black turtleneck. The Cuban style chain on the choker gave a street style element to the look, while the gold perfectly complemented the gold notes of the bag and earrings, pulling the whole look together.
