Pink + Purple

There is no doubt that the pink and purple combination evokes Y2k Barbie vibes. Sugary-sweet, the current trending colour scheme seems to revolve around a blue-toned vibrant pink and purple combination that has been spotted in Instagram darlings such as Leonie Hanne and Matilda Djerf.

Leonie Hanne was spotted wearing a two-piece swimsuit featuring a purple knot front top and pink bottom. For an added retro feel, the look was paired with matchy, slightly winged, rectangular, pink Gucci sunglasses. She completed the look with Chanel's Caviar Quilted mini square Incognito bag in a purple shade that matched the bikini top. Chanel's Incognito Mini bag, unlike some of the brand's other bags, is completely monochromatic and has no silver or gold hardware on it. The original Barbie doll accessories did not come with glistening gold or silver embellishments either, and this added to the nostalgic, Barbie feel when teamed with the pink acetate frame and lenses of the sunglasses.

Danielle Bernstien and Matilda Djerf both went for sportier Barbie-esque looks. Danielle threw an oversized white shirt over a purple binki and pink hot shorts, and Prada's Raffia Tote in Pink lent a breezy, beachy feel to the look. Matilda, on the other hand, paired purple biker shorts with an adorable oversized, pink knit turtleneck sweater and large, square-ish framed orange-tinted Lexxola sunglasses, giving the look a '60s retro feel.

The Malibu Barbie vibes continue with Valentina Ferragni's stunning purple satin wrap dress and striking, neon pink pouch bag. This look was all summer glamour teamed with dark sunglasses. Adding to the Barbie aesthetic were elements of the dress such as a belt tie that accentuated the waist and a gentle ruffle on the bottom, that lent a flirty, girlish charm.

Blue + Brown

The blue and brown combination is another one that was rather popular in the Y2k era. The influencers of today, however, are styling it in more contemporary ways, specifically, with the use of a yellow-toned ochre hue with blue. The thing about this brown/blue combo is that it is not particularly season-specific. It all depends on how you wear it. The yellow tones in brown also help to warm up the cooler tones of blue hues, creating a unique, statement aesthetic.

For the perfect summer outfit inspiration, take cues from American model Rocky Barnes. Her brown and white floral twin set featured a cropped tube top and fitted midi skirt with a front slit. She accessorised with turquoise necklaces and Bottega Veneta's pouch bag in a vibrant sky blue. Matching ochre-toned heeled sandals completed this uniquely Cali-cool look that has an almost contemporary, bohemian feel.

Both Chiara and Valentina Ferragni have also been seen in this colour combination. Chiara oozed '70s summertime glamour with a low v-necked brown knit maxi dress that was blinged out with a Chanel chain belt to gently highlight the waist. She completed the look with Bottega Veneta's Chain pouch in a glacial, almost turquoise-toned blue that cooled down the yellow tones of the dress. Valentina, was a vision of chic-ness in a gorgeous summer-fall transition look that featured a denim look blazer dress with gold-tone buttons and tan brown, pointed, knee-high textured boots. The western-esque design boots and denim look of the dress gave the outfit a contemporary Americana feel.

And if you feel that this isn't much of a fall/winter or spring ensemble combo, think again. It can go fall/winter with the use of a deeper tone of brown and can have a spring touch with the addition of a bright pastel blue. Fashion influencer Danielle Bernstein puts a fun, outdoorsy spin on a street-chic look, contrasting burnt caramel toned brown, acid wash jeans and slightly reddish toned, brown leather boots with a pretty, periwinkle blue knit sweater. A brown and blue checkerboard print beanie also lent a street edge to the look that was an excellent blend of hard and soft styles.

Green + Black

This is possibly one of, if not the most popular, colour combinations on Instagram at the moment. The green and black combination is another year-round duo that transcends seasons. Celebrities like Dua Lipa and style influencers Danielle Bernstein, Valentina Ferragni and Pernille Teisbaek have all been spotted sporting black with a bright, yellow-toned green.

Danielle Bernstein's fun, girlish look had an almost preppy yet graphic feel to it. She teamed a '70s-esque, green collared mini dress that featured a flowy skirt and lettuce hem sleeves with chunky black loafers, white socks with a black, Hermès Kelly Bag; all of which lent classic, preppy-chic elements to the funky-retro green dress and pastel green, tinted sunglasses.

Danish influencer Pernille Teisbaek used the bright green hue to add a pop of colour to her all-black outfit. She wore an oversized, green wool coat with crocodile textured black pants and a black top. The look was accessorised with Bottega Veneta's Mini Jodie bag in Bottega Green and gold-tone hoop earrings and layered necklaces that picked up on the yellow tones in the green. For an element of fun, her nails were also manicured in the yellow-toned green hue.

For a totally edgy-yet-cute Spring look, Italian influencer Valentina Ferragni wore a balloon-sleeved green knit sweater under a sleeveless, oversized, black padded vest. Pointed, knee-high vinyl boots provided the chic edge and a black Chanel logo bucket hat provided an added dose of cutesy. The bright green of the sweater contrasted perfectly with the black of the rest of the outfit, creating a striking aesthetic that really made a statement.

Red + White

The red and white combination is a rather striking one. Bold red against stark bright white, it is another look that many influencers have been sporting. It is also an excuse to pop on your favourite red lippy to set the whole look off.

For your summer wardrobe, influencers Leonie Hanne and Matilda Djerf present the most darling summer looks. Effortlessly chic, Leonie pairs an oversized, white, floral shirt with red high-waisted shorts, sky-high, white pointed heels that featured a black, studded tip and the Rockstud Alcove Box Bag by Valentino, in a deliciously rich, deep red shade. The studs on the bag and heels lent an edge to the summery florals on the shirt and statement red lip brought the whole look together.

Matilda Djerf's flamenco-inspired look also showcased a red and white polka dot maxi dress with an off-the-shoulder, ruffle neckline. The retro, red and white print made a statement on its own, so she kept the accessories minimal, completing the look with strappy black, square-toed sandals that had a little bling and a black shoulder bag. For her make-up, she wore a red lip that really made the red of the polka dots pop.

If you're starting to feel this mix to be just for summer, enter Olivia Cuplo with her winter-perfect red and white ensemble. A vision of elegance, she teamed a red, knit sweater that had a chunky turtle neck collar with a bright white midi skirt pointed, white, scrunched knee-high boots. The boots had a slightly western, Americana feel to them, adding a retro charm to the look. She accessorised with Bottega Veneta's Padded Cassete Shoulder Bag in a warm tan hue that complemented the red tones of her sweater.

Pink + Black

Edgy Barbie comes to mind with this colour mix that once again – one that can work well through the seasons. The addition of pink is a great way to give a softer, girlish feel to an edgier black look and vice versa.

Influencer Camila Coelho is the epitome of sultry, summertime glamour Barbie in a pink, square neck mini dress that featured a flirty, swing style skirt with a hint of black peeking through at the bust. She accessorised with a black handbag and black, square-toed heeled sandals with chunky gold chain detail for a little sassy, dressy bling. A bold red lip completed the look for an extra dose of glam and drama.

Contrastingly, director of buying at Mytheresa, Tiffany Hsu went avant-garde Barbie in an edgier, dramatic look. She wore a sexy, strappy, black cut-out mini dress, accessorising with Fuchsia pumps adorned with asymmetric grosgrain mesh fascinator bows and a Fuschia satin bag with a twisted handle, both from Jimmy Choo.

In a cosier, cold-weather look, Leonie Hanne wore an oversized knit sweater from The Frankie Shop in a gorgeous shade of bubblegum pink. This is a great shade to try if you are looking to add a fun colour to an autumn/winter outfit. To contrast the dramatic shape of the sweater, she opted for a more minimal pair of kitten-heeled boots from Khaite. Prada's Cleo handbag in a pink and black Jacquard knit and leather brought the whole look together, while perfectly complementing the colour palette.

Italian influencer Valentina Ferragni gives off rockstar glamour vibes in a bright-pastel pink mini skirt with a side slit. The pink of the skirt provided a softer contrast to the rest of the look, which comprised of a slightly oversized, black wet look jacket and a '90s grunge feel, charcoal band tee. The slit on the skirt coupled with pink highlights in her hair gave an '80s glam look.

Blue + White

Though the blue and white combination may conjure up images of summer (think the blue tone of the roofs that dot the terraces in Santorini and the ever summery, blue and white tile-print), it is not completely summer-specific. Depending on the shades and how you mix them, this is one combination that you can try for fall/winter as well as spring/summer. Here's how the Instagram stars have been styling it.

Ruffles, prints, embroidery, and billowy, ethereal silhouettes are the way to go when styling the blue and white mix for summer. Take inspiration from Australian influencer Nicole Warne and American social media personality Aurora Culpo.

Nicole exudes bohemian Cinderella vibes in a two-piece twinset from Zimmerman that featured voluminous, balloon sleeves on a wrap front crop top and a tiered maxi skirt. The statement blue and white floral print that featured throughout the look was accented with an alternating version along the border of the top and tiers of the skirt, providing depth and dimension to the matchy-matchy ensemble. Give the blue and white porcelain print a go for an ethereal summer outfit.

Aurora is pictured in a blue and white look that gave off Spanish Senorita vibes. Can we say Flamenco? Her Mermaid cut maxi skirt featured a ruffle bottom and was splashed with a blue embroidered tile print. She contrasted the fitted nature of the skirt with a white, knot front crop top that had dramatic, statement puff sleeves. Her strappy, blue square-toed heeled sandals picked up on the blues of the skirt, matching perfectly with the whole outfit.

For the other seasons, take cues from style influencers Camila Coelho and the queen of colour mixing herself, Leonie Hanne. Leonie wore pale blue jeans cropped just above the ankle with a bright white,  corset top. An oversized, sky blue blazer added a masculine touch to the femininity of the corset while the icy blue hue of her Bottega Veneta Cassette bag pulled the outfit together. The addition of an almost glacial blue-hued accessory made the rest of the outfit pop. The fresh yet cool-toned mix of colours in this look makes it perfect for both spring and winter.

Orange + Blue

Orange and blue is one that takes you back. It undoubtedly has that vintage feel to it reminiscent of the '90s or late '80s. Though it does have a sportswear feel to it, there are other ways to style this combination, both for summertime and eveningwear.

If you're going for the traditional sporty-chic look, style influencers Matilda Djerf and Valentina Ferragni have got you covered. Matilda goes all out retro pairing a pair of cobalt blue biker shorts with a bright, tangerine orange tank and chunky sneakers. In another picture from the set, she adds more '90s to the look with a clear flower claw clip and is seen wearing an orange cardigan in a more muted tangerine. The cobalt-tangerine combination has a slightly graphic feel, creating a trendy, retro feel look.

Tangerine has a more reddish tone to it than orange, which tends to lean towards a more yellowish hue. For her sporty-retro look, Valentina pairs an oversized, bright orange sweatshirt with a classic blue wash, raw hem denim shorts. Her vibrant bubblegum pink Chanel flap bag works perfectly well with the candied orange giving the whole look a juicy, casual, retro-summer barbie vibe.

For summertime glamour, English singer, songwriter and model, Dua Lipa wears a plunging, sleeveless Louisa Ballou floral mini dress adorned with a blue and orange tropical motif. Layered gold hoop earrings complimented the gold o-ring detail on the figure-hugging dress while black Black PR 17WS Sunglasses from Prada provided a mysteriously glamourous touch. Perfect for those summer yacht days.

For an evening alternative, Danielle Bernstein has it spot with a sultry, satin orange, sleeveless crop light wash blue jeans and a tangerine orange shoulder bag in the classic, '90s baguette shape. The look is broken up with hints of black that include large, statement drop earrings, and classy, pointed pumps. These elements lend elegance and add glamour to the jeans and a nice top aesthetic. One to try for you next head out for cocktails.
