4 Bag Trends from Fendi's Fall/Winter 2022-2023 Fashion Show
What makes an accessory stand out against garments on a runway? For Fendi, flirty, fun, nostalgia with a contemporary edge was the name of the game. We pick out 4 key trends from the stunning range of bags presented at Fendi's Fall/Winter 2022-2023 show in Milan.
The Fendigraphy Bag
A statement accessory, if there ever was one. Enter: The new "it" bag with Fendi's Fendigraphy range. Presenting a bag with a little bling, the sophisticated, crescent-shaped curve is emblazoned with the House's namesake in chunky gold letters, creating an adorably elegant yet fun, chic-street aesthetic that plays beautifully well into our contemporary style culture. The crisper, contemporary curve is softened by the more relaxed handle exuding a more contemporary polished take on the timelessly trendy hobo bag. This one would that would complement any, sophisticated evening look yet would also work well with a more graphic, athleisure look.
The clean, defined lines of the lettering provided a slightly exaggerated extension of logomania, creating drama and an iconic, new silhouette while hinting at the playful nostalgia of the '90s. The individually placed, gold lettering that creates a three-dimensional effect, is almost reminiscent of the alphabet name bracelets that were popular in the era, while the ultra-mini version, aptly named Nano Fendigraphy, wears like a charm around the wrist, a nod to another '90s accessory trend – the charm bracelet.
Some of fashion's biggest style influencers were already photographed carrying it at the show. It was seen on Leonie Hanne, Susanna Lau (@susiebubble) and Valentina Ferragni.
The Fur Bag
The Y2k trend influences continue as Fendi presented an adorable array of fur textile bags. Fun yet oozing sophistication, fur bags that were all the rage back in the '00s reappeared on Fendi's Fall Winter 2022/2023 runway, refashioned on some of the house's new and iconic designs. The plush, fur textiles bring a refreshing shift from the sleek, polished leathers, creating a luxe, cosy aesthetic. Dressed in rich hues of inky sapphire blue and a delectable chocolate brown, the velvety, velour like nature of the fur textile enhanced the decadent hues, giving the bags a delicious, jewel-toned look that oozed of old glamour.
Southwestern-Y2k Chic
As Bella Hadid opened the show, all eyes were on this darling little accessory that screamed of the early '00s. Featuring a similar, baton-style body to the classic Baguette bag, its curved silhouette almost resembled an elongated, stretched horseshoe shape that gently hints at a saddlebag. With the current Old Western Americana trend currently sweeping the fashion scene, this is definitely one to watch. Oozing Southwestern boho-chic, the design was sprinkled with a touch of '00s glamour in the form of its cool, funky, statement FF interlocking motif handle. Once again, presenting a fun new extension of logomania. Like the Fendigraphy bag, the link-chain-like handle on this flirtatiously fun number had a feel of jewellery, creating a unique, "bling-bag" aesthetic.
Wintery Pastels
Who says pastels are just for spring? Fall/Winter isn't just about rich, deep tones. Pastels can lend a beautifully feminine touch to a Fall/Winter ensemble. Fendi sent a beautiful array of pastel-hued bags down the runway, mirroring the soft, pastel tones of the garments. The Fendigraphy bag featured in soothing, pastel mint, evocative of cooler, winter days, while the iconic, Fendi Baguette is seen dressed in an eye-catching, icy-pastel periwinkle. The cool tones continued to a slightly edgier but still glamorously feminine, blue-toned, light slate grey fur textile. The range of pastel bags also included a revived, previous edition of the Baguette to mark its 25th anniversary. Dressed in a unique, frosty aqua metallic-hued shearling-lined leather, it was yet another nod to the early '00s.
