The Best Films And TV Series To Binge-Watch On Netflix This February
Studio Ghibli
Netflix hits the mother lode by offering, for the very first time, 21 animated masterpieces from Studio Ghibli across Asia-Pacific, Europe, the Middle East, Africa, and Latin America, thanks to its distribution partner Wild Bunch International. Subtitled in 28 languages and dubbed in up to 20, the films will be released in three stages over the months of February, March, and April. The first batch available includes Castle in the Sky (1986), My Neighbor Totoro (1988), Kiki's Delivery Service (1989), Only Yesterday (1991), Porco Rosso (1992), Ocean Waves (1993), and Tales from Earthsea (2006).
Gravity
Snagging no less than seven Oscars and six BAFTAs back in 2014, the award-winning film by Alfonso Cuarón has finally arrived on the streaming platform. Starring Sandra Bullock and George Clooney, Gravity follows two astronauts as they try to return to Earth following the destruction of their space shuttle.
The Polar Express
16 years after its initial release, the animated film The Polar Express by Robert Zemeckis also joined the Netflix catalogue on February 1. Nominated at the Oscars and the Golden Globes in 2005, the film tells the story of young boy who starts to doubt the existence of Santa Claus and so decides to get on a mysterious train heading for the North Pole.
Who Killed Malcolm X?
Decades after the assassination of African-American leader Malcolm X, who articulated concepts of race pride and black nationalism in the early 1960s, Abdur-Rahman Muhammad takes a look back at the event in the name of truth and justice. The documentary will join the platform on February 7.
To All The Boys: P.S I Still Love You
The highly-anticipated second instalment in the film series, based on the book trilogy by Jenny Han, To All The Boys: P.S. I Still Love You is set to be released on February 12, just in time for Valentine's Day. In the trailer, we see Lara Jean and Peter grow from a cute fake couple to an even-cuter real one, but their relationship might be threatened when LJ's middle school crush John Ambrose shows up.
Cable Girls, Season 5
On February 14, the fifth and final season of Cable Girls will be broadcast on Netflix. While details are rather scarce, we do know that Season 5 is set during the Spanish Civil War of 1936-39, so expect lots of drama!
I Am Not Okay With This
Coming from the creators of Stranger Things and End of The F***ing World, the new series is inspired by Charles Forsman's graphic novel of the same name, and follows high school teenager Sydney as she tries to get through high school, deal with her eccentric family, and understand her sexuality, all while discovering her new and confusing telekinetic superpowers. All The Bright Places
Elle Fanning and Justice Smith play the main characters in this romantic drama, which is based on the eponymous best-selling novel by Jennifer Niven. The film explores the love story of two teens battling the emotional and physical scars of their past. With All The Bright Places, director Brett Haley may well have hit the bullseye as he explores the issue of mental health and bipolar disorder. Watch it starting from February 28 on Netflix.
