ASTRO's Moonbin Has Passed Away At Age 25
The K-pop idol was found dead in his Seoul apartment last night as fans grieve this tragic loss.
Last night, fans were griped with shock when news broke that ASTRO's Moonbin has died at the age of 25. The K-pop idol was reportedly found dead at his Seoul apartment by his manager at around 8.10pm on April 19. Authorities are still investigating the cause of death but suspect that the star "took his own life". Upon the confirmation of his death, his talent agency released the following statement to break the heartbreaking news to AROHAs, the group's loyal fandom:
"This is Fantagio.
First, we apologize for having to convey this sorrowful and heartbreaking news.
On April 19, ASTRO member Moonbin suddenly left us and has now become a star in the sky.
Although it cannot compare to the grief of the bereaved family that had to part with their beloved son and brother, his fellow artists and the staff here at Fantagio, who have been together with him for a long time, are also deeply mourning the departed amidst tremendous shock and sorrow.
It pains us even more to have to convey this sudden news to the fans who have given their unsparing love and support to Moonbin. Because we know all too well just how unparalleled the departed [Moonbin] was in his love for his fans, whom he was constantly thinking of, the grief is all the more overwhelming.
In order for the bereaved family, who has fallen into great sorrow due to this sudden tragedy, to be able to respectfully mourn the departed and say their goodbyes, we entreat you to please refrain from speculative or malicious reports.
In accordance with the wishes of the bereaved family, the funeral will be held as quietly as possible, with family, close friends, and agency colleagues in attendance.
Once again, we express our deep mourning as the departed walks his final path."
The funeral procession will be held privately amongst family, friends and loved ones as they grieve this sudden and shocking loss. Fantagio has confirmed that his fellow ASTRO members will be attending the wake. JinJin and Sanha is reported to be overlooking the procession while and MJ has taken emergency leave from his military service to be present. Cha Eun-woo has suspended his scheduled activities and is flying back from the US to be in attendance as well.
News of Moonbin's passing has sent shockwaves in the industry due to its sudden nature. The main dancer of the K-pop group has debut under a sub-unit group simply named Moonbin & Sanha with the EP, 'In-Out' in 2020. The dashing duo have been hard at work releasing new singles as well as two more EPs, 'Refuge' and 'Incense'. It looked like it was full steam ahead for the star as the Moonbin & Sanha were in the midst of their Diffusion Fan Con Tour which was scheduled to land in Macau, Taipei, Jakarta and Japan in the upcoming weeks. The tour kicked off in Seoul with rousing success and had recently wrapped in Bangkok and Manila.
