Aloft at Hermès Presents 'Vanishing Workflows' by Xavier Antin
Vanishing Workflows, by French artist Xavier Antin, tells the intertwined story of production and civilisation from past to future. The installation draws the link between commerce and nature through prints of various flowers and a sculpture-like Bitcoin machine, provoking global questions about the value of future labour, production, industry and economics in today’s digitised world.
“The exhibition is inspired by Singapore, the lush tropical vegetation of its parks and gardens and the importance of its banking and financial services,” shares Antin.
His works draw a parallel between the economic and social impact that came about from the Gutenberg printing technique and digitisation; two inventions that changed the course of civilisation.
Xavier Antin studied at the Royal Collage of Art and Ensad before going on to show his works throughout galleries around the world. His love for books and his training as a graphic designer have shaped his interest in the reproduction technologies of image and text. The 37-year-old is fascinated with the idea of production processes, notably the impact of technological advances and how they shape perception and behaviour.
