Coachella 2022: All the Highlights from Weekend One

From 2NE1's surprise reunion to Shania Twain's Man, I Feel Like A Woman duet with Harry Styles, here are all of the highlights from weekend one of Coachella 2022.

Music's highly anticipated festival is back after its two-year Covid-induced hiatus. Happening from April 15th to 17th and April 22nd to 24th, Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival 2022 has showcased big acts like Harry Styles, Billie Eilish, Doja Cat, Megan Thee Stallion, Swedish House Mafia, Justin Bieber, and 21 Savage, and is set to feature more during its second weekend.

Here are some of our favourite highlights from this weekend's festivities.

2NE1's Surprise Reunion

By far the most talked about event of Coachella was K-Pop group 2NE1's surprise reunion; recording label 88rising brought out the group amid their Head in the Clouds Forever set.

Music go-ers present at the event and those watching live on Coachella's official YouTube livestream channels could be heard screaming their hearts out to the first few notes of the group's hit song "I Am The Best", better known in Korean as "내가 제일 잘 나가" ("Naega jeil jal naga").

This reunion marks the group's first performance and sighting since their split in 2016. It's safe to say we'll never get over this.

Harry Styles Invites Shania Twain on Stage

A dynamic duo indeed. Harry Styles invited music legend Shania Twain on stage to perform Twain's hit single “Man, I Feel Like A Woman." “Shania Twain taught me to sing,” said Styles as he addressed the Coachella crowd. “She also taught me that men are trash.”

After the show, Twain took to Twitter to share a backstage picture with Styles and address the time she shared with him on stage. “I am honoured and thrilled to have joined Harry Styles onstage for his Coachella debut. What a magical moment!! And I mean c’mon… WHAT A SHOW," she said. “I’m a huge fan! Grateful we got to create this memory together – Thank you, Harry.”

Megan Thee Stallion's First Coachella Performance

Real hot girl s***; rap's favourite it girl Megan Thee Stallion debuted at Coachella for the first time this weekend. “This is my first time at Coachella,” said Megan as she hyped up the crowd. “And I’m ready to turn the f*** up with ya’ll.”

The crowd went wild for her hit singles "Body", "Savage" and more, as well as her outfit changes, energy, and incredible props. We speak on behalf of everyone when we say we're all excited to see more of Megan at future Coachellas.

Damon Albarn Performs "Feel Good Inc." with Billie Eilish

Billie Eilish pulled out all the stops with her closing performance for day two. Besides performing all of her hit songs and bringing out one of her closest friends Khalid for a duet of "Lovely", Eilish also invited Gorillaz vocalist Damon Albarn to perform his band's hit single “Feel Good Inc.”.

“This man changed my life in a lot of ways,” said the 20-year-old headliner. “My first favourite band was The Good, the Bad & the Queen when I was six years old. Blur changed the world. And Gorillaz changed the world. This man is literally a genius."

Post Malone Joins 21 Savage on Stage

A full-circle moment for beloved rappers 21 Savage and Post Malone.

Just like in 2018 when Post Malone brought 21 Savage on stage for his set, Savage returned the favour and invited Post back for his own show this year. During the set, Post Malone performed his popular song "Rockstar" with Savage.

Arcade Fire Dedicates a Song to Ukraine

Of course, with all that's been going on in the world, artists like Arcade Fire have been using their platform to highlight important political issues outside of the US. Mid-set, frontman Win Butler dedicated their song "The Suburbs" to the people of Ukraine as well as addressed the crowd about the dire situation there.

“It’s a time of incredible change, but you can’t let change f**king break you down. It’s alright to change, everything is going to be okay,” said Butler. “I want to dedicate this to everyone in Ukraine. Everyone in a punk rock band in Ukraine right now. I’m thinking about everybody who is dealing with the war right now."
