From newlyweds to long-term couples, it’s always exciting to see a pregnancy announcement—most especially when it comes to our favorite celebrity power couples. It’s even more exciting when they announce the surprise news at coveted events like the Grammys and Oscars, or even with magazine cover stories that include pregnancy announcement pictures, à la Demi Moore. Just a few months ago, Suki Waterhouse made a surprise pregnancy announcement as she showed off her baby bump at the Corona Capital Music Festival in Mexico City. And who could forget Karlie Kloss’ baby bump debut at the 2023 Met Gala?
Baby watch blind items might be fun (or not fun, when you’re the celeb trying to keep your pregnancy a secret for a little while longer). But isn’t it exhilarating when we find out our speculations are correct? We may only be a quarter into the new year, but quite a few celebrity couples are already expecting to welcome a new child this year. So, L’OFFICIEL has rounded up all the celebrity pregnancy announcements of 2024.
Just recently, cover star Sofia Richie Grainge made one of the most exciting celebrity pregnancy announcements of the year, though she did hold off on sharing the good news for quite a hile. Her baby bump didn't even show during her November 2023 cover shoot with L'OFFICIEL USA, when she was around three months pregnant. However, we should've guessed it—she was blooming more than usual, after all. But on January 25, Richie Grainge announced in a Vogue interview that she was six months pregnant. The model also shared some pregnancy announcement pictures in a joint Instagram post with Vogue, including one with her husband, music executive Elliot Grainge. Since then, she has been out and about showing off her baby bump on multiple outings, even attending the 2024 Grammys and runway shows with her husband during Fashion Week.
Vanessa Hudgens sure knows how to make an entrance. Just last night, Hudgens excitingly made a surprise prengnacy announcement: with a red carpet appearance at the 2024 Academy Awards, one of the most prestigious events of the year. Hudgens, 35, married her husband, professional baseball player Cole Tucker, in an intimate Tulum wedding in December 2023.
Earlier this month, Ayesha Curry revealed in a Sweet July cover story that she and her husband, Golden State Warriors point guard Stephen Curry, were expecting their fourth child together. "We said 'Three, that's it, we're not doing this again," Curry candidly told Sweet July in her surprise pregnancy announcement. However, Curry shared that she decided she was ready for another baby when she felt that something was missing: "I would load up the car and think, 'Oh, I forgot something.' But nobody was forgotten. [...] Maybe somebody was missing. So we set out on this journey, knowing that this would complete our family," Curry added.
Life truly does imitate art, at times, that is. All the Revenge fans out there would be pleased to know that Emily Thorne and Daniel Grayson, played by Emily VanCamp and Josh Bowman, ended up together in real life. On February 24, VanCamp announced in an Instagram post that she and her husband were expecting their second child together. After meeting on the set of Revenge, the couple have been together since January 2012, tied the knot in a Bahamas wedding in December 2018, and welcomed their first child, a daughter, in August 2021. Needless to say, their relationship sure is faring much better than their on-screen counterparts.
At the Berlin Film Festival premiere of her latest project, La Cocina, Rooney Mara revealed that she and her fiancé, Joaquin Phoenix, were expecting their second child together by showing off her baby bump. Mara and Phoenix have been together since 2016, though they did meet four years earlier on the set of Her. In 2020, they welcomed a son named River, who is named after Phoenix's brother, who died in 1993. Despite the public baby bump debut, the couple maintains their privacy regarding their personal life, and have yet to comment on the news.
Kali Uchis started the new year with good news. After months of internet speculation, the Grammy-winning artist and her partner, rapper Don Toliver, confirmed that they were expecting in a joint Instagram post on January 11. The video included clips of the two as kids, as well as intimate videos of their journey to parenthood thus far. “Starting our family❤️🩹 don’t take too long to get here little pooks, mom & dad can’t wait to share our life with you,” the post read.
Elisabeth Moss might prefer to keep a low profile for the most part, but in late January, she confirmed her pregnancy as she showed off her baby bump during her Jimmy Kimmel Live! appearance. Moss, 41, noted on the show that she’s "been lucky" that her journey has “been going really well” so far. The Emmy-winning actress, still maintaining her privacy, did not reveal the identity of her partner.
Vanderpump Rules star Lala Kent's emotional Instagram post is among the celebrity pregnancy announcements of 2024. The post, which included pregnancy announcement pictures, read, "I’m expanding my pod. [...] A @maryruthorganics cheers to a new addition to my little family." Kent, who shares a daughter with ex-fiancé Randall Emmett, shared on an Amazon livestream that she used a sperm donor and that her mother has been helping her co-parent her daughter, Ocean. "The best part about my baby daddy is that he does not exist," Kent noted. "The word 'dad' is an honor and a privilege, and that word is not just something that should be handed out," she added.
On January 17, Jenna Dewan announced in an intimate video that she was pregnant with baby No. 3. She and her fiancé, actor and singer Steve Kazee, share a three-year-old son, though she also shares a daughter with ex-husband Channing Tatum. Dewan, 43, also shared the news in an exclusive surprise pregnancy announcement interview with Romper. Though she realizes that her postpartum experience might be a little more challenging than ever before, Dewan is overjoyed with how her partner has embraced fatherhood. "He's so naturally domestic and nurturing," she noted in the Romper interview. "It's one of those things where people just have a natural ability for parenting. I'm so excited to see him with a little baby again," Dewan added.
Seems that awards shows are the new hotspot for celebrity pregnancy announcements this year. At the 2024 Golden Globes, Ghosts star made a surprise pregnancy announcement as she walked the red carpet showing off her baby bump. McIver, 35, eloped with her now-husband, Australian artist George Byrne, in January last year.
If you're wondering how this will affect the third season of Ghosts, it won't. According to Us Weekly, writers Joe Port and Joe Wiseman will not be writing McIver's pregnancy into the show.
Earlier this year, Property Brothers co-host Drew Scott and his wife, Linda Phan, shared the good news via Instagram. The post, which included pregnancy announcement pictures, read, "Round 2👶 I hope Parker’s ready for a lil company❤️❤️" They welcomed their first child on their fourth wedding anniversary on May 12, 2022.
