A Look at All the MTV Video Music Awards 2022 Nominees
The highly anticipated MTV Video Music Awards show has just unveiled a full list of nominees, with stars like Harry Styles, Doja Cat, Olivia Rodrigo and more in the running for their respective titles.
Another year, another return of the star-studded MTV Video Music Awards ceremony, honouring the top music videos of the past year. This year, the competition seems even tougher with seven nominees running in each category for the first time ever in the show’s history of 39 years. The 2022 VMAs is stipulated to take place on 28 August 2022, 8 p.m. ET/PT live from Prudential Center in Newark, N.J.
As we anticipate more details on the upcoming award show, here’s what we know from the nominations so far:
Spanning 25 categories, Lil Nas X, Jack Harlow and Kendrick Lamar are currently tied in leading with seven nominations across various categories. Taking home the most coveted award; Video of The Year at the 2021 VMAs was none other than American rapper, Lil Nas X for “Montero (Call Me by Your Name)”.
This year, Lil Nas X’s all-time hit “Industry Baby” featuring Jack Harlow has followed suit as one of the contenders for the title. If he clinches the title, Lil Nas X will be the first artist to win back-to-back video of the year awards.
Other nominees in the Video of The Year category include Doja Cat’s “Woman”, Drake ft. Future & Young Thug’s “Way 2 Sexy”, Ed Sheeran’s “Shivers”, Harry Style’s “As It Was”, Olivia Rodrigo’s “brutal”, as well as Taylor Swift's "All Too Well" (10 Minute Version) (Taylor's Version).
Since the pandemic, many artists have resorted to virtual platforms to connect with their fans as in-person entertainment was put to a halt. The metaverse has been ingrained in our society as time goes by and will only continue to grow and reshape our future.
With that, a new category ‘Best Metaverse Performance’ has been introduced this year at the VMAs, with South Korea’s biggest stars BLACKPINK and BTS in contention.
