On her most cherished memories about fragrances
"Gucci Flora Gorgeous Gardenia really reminds me of my grandmother - she always smelled like fresh flowers, so this perfume brings me back to her and all of our amazing memories together."
On how she expresses her joy and freedom
"I express my joy and freedom by making music and having a direct line of communication with my fans so that they can always live their truth. By sharing our morals and values, we live it. I want to live by example and encourage my fans to make pure choices. Do what you love and don’t sacrifice your highest potential for anything or anyone."
On being herself, and being an optimist
"Self-expression is a huge part of who I am and what I try to encourage my fans and those around me to believe in - to always wear your heart on your sleeve, and to embrace all of the qualities and experiences that make us who we are. I express myself through my music of course, but also through my clothing, my art, my home, etc.
It’s tough to always be an optimist and sometimes I do have my off days, but I am constantly grateful for the life I have, my fans, my family. When you take a step back to appreciate everything you have, it makes it hard to be anything but optimistic."
On what she would tell her younger self
"It’s funny, I just celebrated the 15th anniversary of the first episode of Hannah Montana, and I wrote a letter that speaks to myself 15 years ago. “A trying time is no time to quit trying” is something my dad has always said, and it’s really stuck with me."
On music, and how her tastes have changed over the years
"I think my music taste has definitely changed and evolved but my inspirations have always stayed the same. I love Stevie Nicks, Billy Idol, Joan Jett and you can hear those influences in my music, especially on Plastic Hearts. I recently worked with The Kid LAROI and we performed at SNL together. I’m always interested in getting into the studio with musicians I admire and musicians who are doing interesting things with their sound.
I’ve always loved and learned from every genre of music – I grew up listening to everything from country, blues, pop, so on – and I think my fans especially have seen those influences throughout my music career in some capacity. Even though I am always changing, I know those influences will always be there with me."
