How to Achieve Selena Gomez’s Minimalist High-Gloss Nails

The singer wore the “my nails but better” sheer look to the 3rd Academy Museum Gala.

We were treated to yet another stunning red carpet at the 3rd Academy Museum Gala on December 3. Some of Hollywood’s biggest names were in attendance, including Meryl Streep, America Ferrera and Sandra Oh. Of course, our favourite fashion it-girls Kaia Gerber, Hailey Bieber, and Kendall Jenner also took the time to attend the event. But of the glamorous crowd at the gala, we had our eye on Selena Gomez, sparkling in her black Valentino floor-length gown.

The singer and Only Murders in the Building star turned heads with her elegant look, which was finished with silver sequined rosettes along the entire halter neckline. To top off the ensemble, she donned a pair of black opera gloves. Under the gloves though, we were left wondering what sort of manicure she had been hiding, for the event. After all, the Rare Beauty founder has stunned us with many a nail-look before.

Her long-time nail artist Tom Bachik (who also works his magic on Jennifer Lopez, Margot Robbie and Hailee Steinfeld) has shared photos of Selena’s most stunning nail looks to date, including the “Golden Glazed Fire” set from the MTV VMAs this year. For the Academy Museum Gala, Bachik revealed that the singer opted for a minimal, barely-there look.

The nail look, though simple, was a moment of understated glam. The high gloss on a healthy nude base takes the cake for the “my nails but better” concept. To achieve the same glam, start with well-groomed nails. This means taking care of your cuticles and nail beds, to form a clean base for the polish. For the understated, natural look, skip the extensions and just let your natural nail beds shine through. And if you want to nail Selena’s look down to a T, file away till your nails are a modest squoval shape.

Now for the polish, Bachik applied the Aprés Nail Gel Couleur in ‘Gossamer Light’ on the star, in favour of its high shine and quick curing time. But any sheer nude polish, whether gel or not, will do. We want to breathe more life into our nails without layering on too much colour.

As of late, the ‘Single Soon’ singer has been forgoing high-maintenance chrome shades, and has instead been leaning into more natural nail designs, like her “Naked Disco” look and the super sleek lipgloss nails
