Here are The Trending Fringe Hairstyles To Inspire Your Next Trip To The Hairdresser
Bangs are experiencing a major revival. Previously a mini trend during lockdown, they are holding strong as we prepare to step out into the world again.
Bangs, also known as fringes, are strands or locks of hair that have been cut to make them fall in front of your hairline. They’ve been around for ages, but only started really gaining popularity when Hollywood film star Louise Brooks sported a short bob with bangs in the 1930s.
It's been a trend noted by hairdressers, notably "soft fringes, with strands slightly longer to the side, that’s not too thin nor too thick" quickly gaining popularity in both Asia and Europe, says Ken Hong, fashion and celebrity hairstylist and owner of the award winning Evolve salon in Singapore.
Fringes have the ability to change your entire look, and even serve as a great anti-ageing strategy. Of course, a decision such as this should not be taken lightly - else you’ll be dealing with bobby pins for several weeks. So if you’re looking for some inspiration to start, or are looking for a reference photo to show your hairdresser, here are some standout fringes by celebrities all around the world to inspire you by.
Wispy bangs
A K-beauty trend, these bangs, which are separated and thin, gives you a look that is both youthful and fresh, framing your face in a more subtle way. Spotted by the likes of Lisa from Blackpink, Joy from Red Velvet, Lee Sung-kyung and more, it doesn’t cover your forehead as much, giving off a softer, girlier image. It's versatility and barely-there nature makes for a great style for first time bang cutters. Plus, they won’t leave you feeling stuffy in our humid weather.
Short, blunt bangs
These are straight cut bangs that fall above the eyebrow, giving off a more blunt and edgy look. it’s been spotted from K-celebrities such as Minnie from South Korean girl group (G)I-DLE under CUBE Entertainment, to fashion models such as Gizele Oliveira, who most recently appeared in L'Officiel's Model's At Home photoshoot, and Bella Hadid.
Curtain bangs
It's a regular full fringe, but parted in the middle like a curtain. The fringe here covers both sides of the face, which gives the illusion of a sharper, slimmer face - perfect for those with round faces. This is also a great solution to when your bands are growing and you don’t have time to trim them - simply sweep your strands to the side and no one can tell! Some notable wearers of this fringe include Dakota Johnson, Selena Gomez, Hailey Bieber and Hyun Ah.
French Girl Fringe
Also most recently known as the ‘Marianne bangs’ inspired by the character of the same name from Normal People, the fringe here is arched or slightly chipped at the end, with a shorter cut towards the middle to make it slightly wispy. The result is a cut that adds softness and width to your look. This look is also easier to maintain and take care of compared to other blunt fringes, and perfect for first time bang cutters.
