Exclusive Interview! Behind-The-Scenes of Rihanna's J'adore Campaign with Dior Beauty
J'adore has a new muse and she's none other than global superstar and business mogul, Rihanna
Her name needs no introduction. Rihanna is a force to be reckoned with not just in the realm of music but also in fashion and of course, beauty. Known for forging her own path and doing things not just differently, but her way, Rihanna became one of the best-selling recording artists of all time and as of this year, is the wealthiest female music artist with a net worth of over $1.4 billion. Primarily because the global superstar is not about "staying in her lane" and has branched out over the years, redefining the beauty and fashion space with Fenty Beauty and her lingerie label Savage x Fenty.
Her business ventures are defined by inclusivity, self-love and a celebration of diversity with the star being one of the influential voice championing the inclusion of all body shapes and skin colour when making a product, regardless of the current beauty standard. Rihanna is about creating the standard and that is exactly what sets her apart as one of the biggest influencers and artist in modern times.
This strength and self-confidence that Rihanna embodies is exactly why she was the ideal person to represent the new J'adore woman. Dior Beauty's iconic J'adore fragrance was previously fronted by Charlize Theron for many years before the torch is passed to the gorgeous Barbadian star to usher in a new era for the beloved scent. The campaign, shot in Versailles, captures the opulence, grandeur and elegance of the golden liquid housed in its signature flacon. Rihanna, dressed in gold (an iconic imagery that's associated with J'adore) struts down the halls in Versaille, exuding incredible aura.
From the historic location to the Dior outfits the star wore, L'OFFICIEL SINGAPORE takes a closer look behind-the-scenes of the lavish campaign as Rihanna speaks on what J'adore means to her, her experience shooting the campaign and her affinity with the House of Dior.
Is J'adore a special perfume for you?
I have always loved this perfume. My mother worked in a perfume shop and she used to bring home the testers when they were almost empty. There was always a bottle of J'adore in the house.
How would you describe the J'adore fragrance?
J'adore is a unique fragrance. It is fresh and sexy at the same time. It is neither too spicy, nor too delicate nor too clean. J'adore has an aura. It expresses a genuine “essence.”
How do feel when you wear J'adore?
Personally, I feel that perfume has so much power! It can give you self confidence, awaken memories, and transport you to a different place. J'adore makes women feel that they can become who they really want to be, deep down inside. It’s magical!
In your opinion, who is the J’adore woman?
She is beautiful, strong, sexy, and resilient at the same time.
How was the shoot at Versailles?
Versailles is enchanting. Everything is astonishingly beautiful. It embodies so much history and the magnitude of French luxury. Being able to wander around there early in the morning was a privilege and a breathtaking experience from beginning to end!
What is the overarching theme of your “night at Versailles”?
It is a dream in gold! J'adore is closely connected to gold, through its colour, its bottle and its image. Nowhere else in the world could you be surrounded by as much gold as at Versailles.
What was it like working with Steven Klein?
I always enjoy working with Steven. Even with all he’s accomplished, he still has such a genuine, pure, child-like passion for his art. It’s such a joy to work with artists like him! And full circle to be back at Versailles for Dior with Steven Klein! Dream team baby!
Tell us what inspires you about Dior and what makes you the most excited about this new chapter with the House?
The House of Dior has always represented the highest level of elegance, craftsmanship, and the regality of a woman. It’s always an honour to be a part of the brand’s history, and to now represent J’adore is an even greater responsibility because of how important this fragrance is to Dior.
